Ball diff for nitro rustler...

what does the ball diff replace when installed?

and i heard there are ball bearing you can use in the spur instead of the red pins... is this true? if so what would that help and where can i get them? or does the ball diff eliminate the need for that?

...cuz i think i partially melted my spur/red pins down a little bit by having the slipper to loose...

Do a search on ball diffs here in this forum. You will see that unless you spend alot of time adjusting them every 3-5 tanks they will cause nothing but problems. Thats if and only if you get the right setting in the first place. For bashing, nothing beats a geared diff. Even the buggies, mt's and onroads run geared diffs for a simple reason, they are dang near bulletproof.

NOTHING beats a ball diff. geared suck, they strip out ever 5 tanks and you have to replace them.. BALL DIFF OR DIE!

Hows that ball diff in your RS4, Rustler holding up, Tard? You sure had a heck of alot of great luck with your old NXT, I believe thats why you used JB weld, then pawned it off on your buddy Barry.

Haha, wow. Calm down guys.
The ball diff actually takes more adjusting, once its set its done, and matinecne and rebuilding but it offers better handling. I don't suggest it for bashing but for racing its a huge plus.
A gear diff does not blow out in 5 tanks, how do you think 1 hour mains are held at big nats' races?
And Blackfoot, has good advice, I agree with him on alot of his words.

The one you tore out? It was a ring gear you mook, not the diff gears. A set of shims when I rebuilt what your tore up and its good as gold, no thanks tou you or your help in replacing what you broke!!!!

mostly bashin here, there is a off-road track not more than 25m away so i plan on checkin it out in the summer and possibly racing, so i think ill stick with the spur for now.

although what about the associated ball bearings for the spur instead of the pins? cuz either way i need to get a new set of pins for the 72t that came with the truck. ill upload pics of the spur...

RE: Ball diff for nitro rustler...

if you use bearings the spur will slit constantly. JUst tighten the spur all the way down (wrench the hell out of it) and it will be fine. That's how I run mine, that's how I always will.

yea thats how i have it now from taking your advice the other day.

heres the 70t stock taken w/ the 72t unused (that came with the truck) for comparison...

RE: Ball diff for nitro rustler...

that happens when there too much slip, you didn't tighten it enough.

RE: Ball diff for nitro rustler...

Crank it down till you thinks its going to break, then give it another 1/4 turn tighter.

ya thats kinda what i thought right b4 my "engine winding too fast" post... :( well its seems to be back to normal kinda, but when i get some new pins ill install the 72

RE: Ball diff for nitro rustler...

I think you may be confused. The ball diff is in the transmission case. They perform better than gear diffs and don't require much maintenance. I havent rebuilt mine yet. Just make sure it is at the right tension every so often. The little redd things are friction pegs. That is part of the slipper clutch. Just buy new pegs then read you manual on how to set it.
