Better Turning Radius?
Ok yall. I have a Nitro Evader ST and want a tighter turning radius out of it. I am currently running a Futaba 3003 servo with Enigizer rechargable battires 2500mah. What do yall suggest? This thing has a turning radius of a freaking 18 wheeler. [:@] Thanks.

RE: Better Turning Radius?
I would try replacing the receiver battery pack with a 5-cell hump pack. That should give a bit faster response from the steering servo.
Can you tell if your front it slipping at all during a turn? You may want to adjust the ride height or look into different tires. Offset wheels could give you a bit more range for the steering as well. |
RE: Better Turning Radius?
try a 2 or 3 degree mount in the rear suspension new tires always help

RE: Better Turning Radius?
Try some toe out in the front end. This will help make the truck turn faster, but this will make the truck have a greater tendency to oversteer so dont go to wild with it. Also if you have a good computer radio make sure the end points arent set that you cant turn sharp.

Thanks for the suggestions yall.
dude7422...what do you mean by "mount in the rear suspension"? I've never really messed with the handling of these things before. This is my first venture into it. |
RE: Better Turning Radius?
I think he means putting some toe in on the rear tires. But doing this wont help a this just helps with overall traction. If you have toe in, in the rear it will help you in acceleration. Try the toe out in the front end, this should help, if it doesnt then something else is off. How fast are you going when your trying to turn also are you on the gas when trying to turn.
If you at speed the truck will take longer to turn as it's going pretty fast. If your on the gas the weight is transfered to the rear, which puts less weight on the front end, which will make the truck turn like a truck. All trucks when your going at a high rate of speed, or if your on the gas will turn like a 18 wheeler. These trucks turn much better when you off the throttle. If your trying to get it to turn better when doing these try moving some weight forward. |
RE: Better Turning Radius?
I'm just trying to get it to turn a little sharper at slower speeds...say 5-15 mph. I've pretty much figured out how to make it do what I want at high speeds via a little brake and then back on the gas while turning. Most of my running is on pavement. I'll have to give that toe out in the front a try. The weather is nice today so hopefully i will get a chance to run her. Thanks yall.

RE: Better Turning Radius?
Try getting a new servo. The 3003 is a cheap plastic geared servo with virtually no power. The Hitec HS-645MG is a great servo with tons of power. The Futaba 3305 takes too much energy from the batts for the same power.
Also, getting a 5-cell hump pack will help a lot. I use the NiMH Venom 5-cell hump pack from towerhobbies and love it. |
RE: Better Turning Radius?
I love my s3305 it works great with a hump pack. Also putting a little toe out in the front helps alot.
