Nitro Rustler Shock setup Question

Hello, Here is my thing my back end is super squishy. It will bottom out if i drop it from about 2 feet. I am looking for a all around set up but leaning towards a track setup. So basically i want to stiffen up the back a little bit. My options are to move the angles of my shock or just add a higher weight oil. What do you guys/girls (if any) suggest? Or is there something different... As i understand it changing the spring doesn't really do any thing. It seems to me like the shocks purpose is just to extend the shock after it compresses. Any ways any coments will help. Thanks

RE: Nitro Rustler Shock setup Question

The travel is there for a reason and it means a hell of a lot on a 2 wheel drive. Who ever it was that said springs don't matter that much is a absolute idiot. springs and shock oil weight mean everything. What you need to do is get into the forums and really dig because there is a wealth of information that is great. There are also magazine publications on set up that is probably your best bet. In the forums there is just about as much bad as good. It would take me an hour to explain set up properly and I don't have that kind of time to waste here when you could find it. I will wish you all the luck in the world and tell you Rusty is a darn good truck to learn with....................there are still a few out there winning big races[:-]

RE: Nitro Rustler Shock setup Question

Well I just need a general idea......to not bottom out should I increase shock oil. Or will using the different shock mounting positions? I do have a fast lane machine extended arm kit as well, which made everything super squishy. Just need a general hint on the best thing, shock oil/spring combo, just shock oil, or just mounting position change

RE: Nitro Rustler Shock setup Question

you extended the arms and didn't go with stronger springs[&:] First thing is get used to it hitting when you drop it. Don't mean ^&*$% you need to start with more or heavier springs just to start. Put as heavy a spring on the back till your truck starts pushing the front end in corners then work back from there[&o]

RE: Nitro Rustler Shock setup Question

I have a nitro rustler with the fast lane extended A-arms as well. You definitely need to change the positions of the shocks and you need to add spacers in to strengthen the springs. I would definitely recommend aluminum shocks. I run traxxas big bores in front and some hotbodies blue aluminum shocks in rear. Let mek now if you need more help or some pics of my setup...
