Hellfire won't start
Guys..
I just bought a HPI Hellfire, filled it with gas, charged the battery... and can't get it to start. It DID start for about 5 seconds, then cut out. I thought I flooded it, so pulled the plug and pumped the fuel out (twice), even changed the glow plug but it still won't start. Any suggestions? Thanks-Will |
RE: Hellfire won't start
Try recharging your glow plug ignitor,or try adjusting your throttle trim.If it is cold outside then preheat it.

RE: Hellfire won't start
Thanks.
I tried most everything, preheating it with a heater, letting out the xtra fuel if it floods, etc. Seems like alot of fuel winds up in the resonator (?) I tried the throttle trim in different positions also and it still won't fire. Glow plug lighter has a fresh battery too, so I know it's working. Any other ideas? |
RE: Hellfire won't start
Man, this sucks! Am I wrong to believe that this thing was setup correctly at the factory (throttle trim, lean needle, etc)? I'm thinking that I should try to lean it out a little first?
I took a glow plug and put the lighter on it (in my hand) to test it and it starts glowing red alright, so I'm pretty sure that's good to go. |
RE: Hellfire won't start
is this your first nitro car?
what you want to do is take the glow plug you, get all the fuel out the motor, try and get all the liquid out the muffler by tipping it. then, put the glow plug back in, and purge the fuel by putting your finger on the pipe and puling the string. do it like 5 times, then put in glow IGNITOR, and try to start, if not, then keep trying until it works. if there's alot of resistance, you either have too much fuel in it or not enough... sometimes the motor is flooded real bad so you gotta try and pour the excess fuel out the exhaust and just keep pulling the string. it took me an hour to start my car one time because it was super flooded. |
RE: Hellfire won't start
probably to rich turn it back to base settings.

RE: Hellfire won't start
I got it started! Turns out my Glow plug lighter's battery wasn't charged enough (I guess)...
Now I'm 2.5 tanks through break-in and it keeps wanting to cut out, running sluggish too. What's up now?> I pulled the plug and it looks decent still. Do I need to turn up the idle on the carb at this point or what>? |
RE: Hellfire won't start
Lean it out a little.

RE: Hellfire won't start
Alrihgt.. I tried leaning it and it started again, and throttles up, but cuts out when I put it on the ground and accelerate. Any suggestions??

RE: Hellfire won't start
preheat the motor so the head at least gets warm to the touch, leave the glow ignitor on the plug for like 30 sec to get the combustion chamber heated up and if that doesnt work you have a bad g-plug or a pinched line.

RE: Hellfire won't start
I leaned it out (more) and it's starting to run pretty good now! One thing it's doing now though is the steering seems to have went out. It just stopped working, although the throttle still works. Any idea what that is? I charged the battery for awhile.
