Balancing Tires?
 

Hey I just put some moabs on my firestorm, and dang. These things are freakin sweet. But they seem to be out of balance, and shake the whole truck when at top speeds.

I mean, its not horrible, but its kind of annoying. So i was wwondering if there was anywya that you can balance these things? Has anyone else had this problem?

You almost had to have glued the wrong spots..............but maybe not [&o] who knows maybe they are having problems but not likely :eek:

I put moabs on my storm as well. they are awesome tires but they do wobble alot. especially compared to the stock tires you had. when you pick up the truck and let the wheels hang you will even see them turm so the heavy side rolls down to the bottom. you are probably noticing it when the car is off the ground and the tires are turning quickly right? I saw the same thing, and thought it would be a problem at top speed but it wasn't. they balloon so big when yo are running wide open that they seem to kind of balance themselves out. at least thats what I noticed.

You can balance them like any other tire just put weights in them. The tires are not made wrong and as long as you put glue in the bead track you are fine. use a hair dryer to heat the inside foam let it expand and settle then put it on a tire balancer and weight it from their. i know you have already glued your tires but for your next set remember to cut the edge of the foam . if you look at the inside of the tire it is roundish and not square like the foam comes. that will help to balance it.

ahhh ok. i'll have to look at them. this was the first set of tires i ever glued so its probably due to lack of experience. Thanks though

What you can do to balance them is minimal at its best, if a tire is that far off then it either needs to be trued, (which very few people have any more) I came through the era ( I still have a good tire truer thats full of dust) that truing was necessary on quite a few tires. As far as the foam is concerned I never heard of square foam. If your refering to the edge of the foam its just fine if you align it properly and nothing else needs to be said [:-]

If you want to balance your tires here is a cheap balancer you can build.

Find yourself a set of roller blades (I found some at a yard sale for $5). Use the bearings and axles that hold the wheels on the bottom of the boot. Make sure some of the bearings still spin nice.

Bring a hub from your firestorm to the hardware store and find something to use as an axle for the balancer that fits the hub with no play. I ended up using a Mastercraft long shaft screwdriver ($3.99) that fit the revo 6mm hub perfectly (I had to cut the handle off). Use some 1/2" plywood for the base and sides. I use some rubber washers/grommets that fit tight on the axle to hold the hub/wheel snug. The Ofna or new Revo Platinum style of hubs would work even better.

Spin the wheel a few times and you'll notice the heavy end will settle at the bottom. Use something like lead tape on the opposite side of your wheel. Take you time and try to use as little weight as possible. The goal is to get the wheel to stop at random spots when spun.
