3.3 engine tuning problems!
 

I have been having some problems leaning out the 3.3, i am not new to nitro engines but, i am newer to car engines mostly boats. I have the 3.3 about 4 turns out in my jato. For me i think that is alot, when i try to make any change to it by leaning it out more, it wants to bogg down or cut out at full throttle???? The engine is fairly new, with about 1/2 a gallon of 20% ran through it. In my boat motors i can lean them out to 1 1/2 to 2 turns out with no problem. So my question is?? is this normal or am i doing something wrong?? It seems like the stock air filter is kinda restrictive, if u take it and try to blow through it, you bearly can. Could this be the problem, idk its just a thought??? thx

If you're leaning it and it wants to cut at WOT, that's too lean. Back it out a bit and see if it runs better. Don't worry about how many turns in it is, just get it running good. And I'm not too experienced and I don't have that car/engine, but it sounds normal to me. From my experiences, you can never turn them in 1 1/2 to 2 full turns. Closer to 1/2 turn. Maybe 1, depending on the engine.

It is not a good idea to use the amount of turns in on the HSN to judge a "good tune". I have gone through about five traxxas 3.3's and have gotten a good judge of how much I should turn the HSN in to get my tune, but still its a bit different for every motor and different climates, break in etc. Some may disagree, but I advice getting a temp gun till you learn how to tune by smoke/sound/performance. These nitro motors run best between a certain "window of temps". Id say around 220-260 would be a good place to be.
