Default Molding body

I know I can buy a new body mold it then vacuum form it and that's fine. but I would like to take my OEM body and make a mold if then vacuum form from there. Is this possible? Would you do it just like you would a blank body? I own a SVT Raptor and my son bought a Traxxas Raptor but he wants more detail than stickers. So I was think I would make a copy of the current one and then detail it with the fins in the hood, FORD in the grill and the vents in the front fenders just to give it a more realistic look, but with out having to pay 30.00 for a blank shell. Thanks
