Why is it so hard to mask a body? PICS ADDED!!
Why is it so hard to mask a body before painting it? I'm using regular 3/4" masking tape trying to make a simple mask for my El Camino body. I think it turned out okay, but the mask job was difficult. Was I using the right type of masking tape? Do they sell pens that I can use to draw a pattern on the inside of the lexan body? I will post some pics of it a little later today. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What do you guys think? How can I improve? I also have a H2 Hummer body that I want to paint yellow with black trim. Any advice on how to mask off the black trim areas of the H2?

yeah use a sharpie on the outside and then afterwards you can use rubbing alcohol to get it off. also try using smaller width tape or using liquid mask. should make things a little easier on those tight corners.

The best thing you can do is mask off most of the body using painters tape and then get some liquid mask for the areas with curves and stuff and use it. Once you use the liquid mask you will never go back to using the tape.

Liquid mask is the deal for those tight corners. HPI bodies come with a tight film on the outside allowing you to draw all you want and peel off when yo're done. I try to only paint HPI when I can.
