Default Paint Peel protection

Im about to start a new project involving a lot of masking, so whats a good way to prevent the paint from peeling. Im using Pactra lacquer paint so Im hoping for little peeling to begin with. Is peeling less likely if you dont thin the paint before spraying with the airbrush? Thanks

Sorry if my question was unclear. What I meant was after spraying the paint, and then when I go to remove some of the masking for the design, in the past, some of the paint peeled off while removing the masking. How should I go about preventing this? Hope this is clearer.

I'm not sure if its the correct way to do it but i used a knife and carefuly cut along the side of the masking before taking it off.

Thanks for the suggestion. Its a smart idea, but if you dont have a real steady hand and a good eye, it could be even more risky then just peeling the masking off.

In my experiences if the paint peels off with the mask, the paint is not dry enough or its too thick or both. Also, try scuffing the body with fine steel wool before you paint but be careful not to touch the windows

Ive tried scuffing before, it works well, but dont you think It affects the final look of the body, by taking away from some of the shininess of the body? I might consider it though, if it will stop the peeling. Thanksq

The shinyness comes from the outside. The paint will fill the scratches in and you will never see them. Also, don't scuff where you are using Alclad chrome it will show through but "colored" paints will be fine

try peeling the tape just after the paint is dry to the touch but before it cures all the way. then the paint is still soft enough that it can seperate at the tape line. also when you pull the tape off, fold it over itself when pulling off so basicly grap the end of the tape and let your fingers lead and the tape follow and put your fingers close to the body. this way the tape creates a cutting type edge and will cut the paint at the tape line. hope that made sense. its really easy but kind of hard to explain. let me know if you need clarification.

I use liquid mask. If i use a vinyl, i draw it on the outside and remove the vinyl before I apply the liquid

Ok, thanks...how long do you have to wait after painting till the paint gets tacky? Is 2 hours good?

if you do light coats, the paint usually is dry to the touch in about 20-30 min. i usually take the masking off at about 30 min. i also use a blow dryer sometimes to help speed it up a little. just keep the blow dryer a ways away so you dont melt the paint of body. also be very careful where and how hard you put your fingers on the paint or else you might put a mark in it. if you take extra care when doing it though, you should be fine.
