Default Whats the best way too ...

Hi,

I have just got a FG Mclaren GTR 1/5 car and have decided to paint it in the Gulf colours, (see pic)

What I want to know is whats the best way to do the orange line between the blue and silver?

Should I mask and paint the blue then the silver then the orange?

Or should I paint the blue and silver then use vinyl for the orange line?

Rich

I personally would paint blue, orange and then back all with silver.
mask off the total orange/silver areas and paint the blue.

then you can either.....

follow the line for the orange with a knife peel off the thin orange area and paint. ( depends how good your hand is) remove the rest of the mask and back it all with the silver.

or remove all the silver/orange masked area then place new mask for the silver parts leaving the thin orange area ready to paint. then remove rest of the mask and back all with silver.

hope this helps.

I use uncut vinyl that i get from a local print shop he gives me all his off cuts and scrap.

if you cant get this then get the best masking tape you can afford. dont be tempted to get the cheap stuff as it does make a difference.

Well I am gettting all the decals from Owen at stickies So I can get him to send me some vinyl with it.

I take it that the paint doesnt bleed under the vinyl then?

Would you then back the whole lot with while or would the silver be enought?

as long as you press the vinyl down along the edges real good then it beats masking tape hands down. no bleeding.

the silver is enough just back with 5-6 fine coats
