I am think i am going to buy a saleen body and want to pant it blue. You know that awsome matalic blue you see on some cars. I put a pic of the car so you can see. Also i think it would look good with doulble white racing strips what you think. It will be my first body if i do it.

For got to mention i will be using rattle cans.

Will turn out great. Stripes are easy with simple masking tape. Mask the stripes, paint the car with Tamiya metallic blue (or whatever metallic blue you can get your hands on that seems close to the result you want), then remove the masking and spray the whole thing white (you will get a very deep and rich metallic blue by backing it with white at the same time you fill in the stripes.

I looked on tower and say the tamyia matalic blue. It is not very dark at all, i included a pic of the bottle. Do i just keep adding coats of white until it reaches the rich dark shade that is in the first picture? Also i read on the forums you want to back white with silver. So after i paint the white go over it again with silver or because it is my last color just leave it alone and be done.

I'd use Pactra's True Blue Pearl or Metallic Blue for a deeper blue.

I went to my LHS and bouoght some paint. They carried pactra paint so i bought Matallic blue (RC265), Sprint White (RC251), and ultra gloss clear coat (28139). The clear coat will protect the paint from like fuel and any other stuff that might get on the inside right? Also they where just over $5 dollars a can how is that for price on these.

Hey any ideas on how wide i should make the stripes and how far apart. It is a 190mm body.

If you want a dark matallic blue then back it with black.
backing it with white or silver will make the blue appear to be light.

I have only used the pactra paints with the black or silver for a backing. I have not backed with clear coat to protect the paint job.
I personally don't see the need.

But i wanted to put white strips. Can i paint the body blue, then back it in black then pain the white stripes? From what i read you want to use black last. Also if white is the last color i use do i have to back it with anything?

paint it blue with your stripes masked off.
back it with the black with the stripes still masked off.
after paint is dry unmask the stripes and paint white.

just paint the stripes till you get a solid color. you don't need to back the white with anything. you also don't need to back the black with anything unless you want the underside of the body to be the same color.
if you want it the same color just paint the whole underside with white or black.

remember one thing about rc body painting. this is not rockett science.

basic rule of thumb is to paint the light colors with black/white/silver before you move on to another color unless you want a fade or color mixing.
backing colors with black will cause the color to be darker than if you backed with white or silver.

alright just means i have to spend more money on a another can of paint [&o]

get some automotive painters masking tape.
I would get one roll of 3/4" and a roll of 1/2" tape.
decide where you want the outside edge of the first stripe and lay out the 3/4" masking tape along that line.
then use the 1/2" tape right against the inside of the 3/4 tape. next 3/4 tape against the 1/2 tape strip.
after all this is done take the 1/2 tape off and then just paint.
this way you will have 3/4" wide stripes with 1/2" between them.
of course you can use any width of tape that you think would look better. this is just my idea on how to lay out the stripes.
