Be sure that when you soak them (in boiling water) that the rims are slightly lighter colored than you want them. When you take them out and let them dry, they darken.

How do you dye dyeable rims?
What I did was bought some Rit dye, boiled some water in an OLD pot, then dumped the dye in. Next I strung some yarn through the wheels so they would be easy to get out, and put them in. I let them sit in there for about 8 minutes (I did black so you will have to check your often). When I thought they looked good I pulled them out and set them on an OLD towel with news paper under it. After 5 minute or so I dried them off with paper towels, when you done with that ou should have some nicely dyed wheels (I feel like Martha Stewart). Just remember, if you get it on your clothes it isn't coming out, so be VERY careful. Hope that helps!

How do you dye dyeable rims?
perhaps a stupid question, but wont there be a white line from where the yarn was?
No, like jtrnp2001 said, the yarn soaks up the dye, so it leaves no marks or lines.
does the dye ruin the pot?
It ruined the pot I used, but it was old and the teflon was chipping off etc. etc. I'm not sure if it would have ruined a newer pot, but it's better to be safe than sorry . Hope that helps!
