Need Help with body customization

Hello I found a RX-7 that i somewhat want to mimic.

Any ideas how to get the hood and the front fenders like that off a HPI RX-7 body? and also how would i go about getting the matte black color?
For the flat or Matte black, you would need to paint the outside of the shell.Otherwise, the lexan will give any color a look of super high gloss.

As for the body kit that is on it,I'd try to just look for a different body like a gt style one that would have those fender flares and would just be closer to start with.Does HPI make a body kit for the RX-7 like they do for the Trueno's,Levin's and Silvia's?

You can get pretty close to that look but it may require some parts hunting.

There are two ways to go about it,

First you can try to reheat the body and press form the finders, however this is a very dificult method to do because one mistake and you ruin the rest of the body. To do this you need to first make a mold of the finder for pressing on the finder. Apply heat to the finder, heat it slowly and not to direct heat because it will start to burn the plastic. The plastic will become soft so don't press anything besides your targeted area.

Second is to take some plastic resin or something similar, coat the finders thicker than you need and sand it down. With this method you have to paint the outside of the body, but you can use a black you lick and coat with a dullcoat. There is no lexan dull coat as far as i know but you're working on an onroad body so it won't be a big deal to finish it off with model dullcoat.

for the fender issue, find a fender that looks like that without the flare, the flare you can find on its own. its called a canard. i believe this is what you would want... http://www.r2hobbies.com/eng/proddet...od=rcvp3344001 i just sent this to show you that it does exist separately other than as part of the body. as for matte color, i have heard some say that you sand down the outside of the body with fine. i have never done it, however i have seen pictures. i can try and find the link for you if u want but i wont guarantee i will find it. i will post if i do.

Here's an RX-7 body kit but the fender flares don't have that square edge, the sideskirts are not the same, and the front bumper looks different to me....it was what I was thinking of though as far as the body kit.

Im thinking of using this body instead of an hpi mainly for the hood and way cheaper.http://www.r2hobbies.com/images/rcvp334310017/01.jpg
what kind of plastic resin should i use to form the sideskirts and the front fenders?
