Taking Paint off
Allright,
I'm not happy with the way my paint job turned out (live and learn) and I want to take all the paint off and go at it again. Other than using RC fuel (that's too expensive of a stripper) what's a way to strip all the paint off that's easy and won't do any damage to the plastic??? Thanks |
RE: Taking Paint off
actually thats your best bet since paint thinner will completely ruin your plastic shell...cant you just buy another one?
or paint the outside of it...:) |
RE: Taking Paint off
nope.

RE: Taking Paint off
well, did you use a solvent based polycarb paint or an acrylic polycarb paint ? in other words did you clean up the brushes with thinner or water ? they tell me mineral spirits will work without harming the lexan but i never had the @@'s to try it. i use acrylic paint from parma (faskolor) and pactra because after painting 7 years, i still make mistakes and they are easier to take off with water. fyi even tho removing paint with thinner will fog the lexan - and its a REAL PAIN to do - you can paint back over the fog. you really cant tell if you use a dark color. the reason is, the outside of the body is still shiny. i know this because it happened to me with the first body i ever painted.

RE: Taking Paint off
the paint is just testors in a spray can..Is it the Nitro in the RC fuel that removes paint or is it just the methanol??? I might go buy a small can straight methanol (aka methyl alchol) and see how that works (much cheaper cool power!)

RE: Taking Paint off
uhhhhh,
that paint is for plastic models and not formulated for lexan. the testors paint will not adhere properly to the lexan. just drive it around for a while. it will eventually all flake off. LOL :D although i have heard of people using the Krylon formulated for plastic on lexan. you just cant spray covering coats with it, only mist at first. |
RE: Taking Paint off
I don't know about that...It just says don't use on polyethylene or polpropylene....says nothing about polycarbonates, in fact it says on materias it won't bond bond with, it'll remain tacky indefinatly (which isn't happening in my case).

RE: Taking Paint off
Dynamite makes a Body Cleaner for about $5.00 Part #DYN5506 it takes some time and 1 old t-shirt but it does not harn lexan.

RE: Taking Paint off
has anyone tried using automotive break fluid?
|
RE: Taking Paint off
i have soaked 6 boddies in dot 3, spray bottle it on, saturate, evry 15 minutes for a an hour or two, i basically falls off, even works on that a**hole who cuts you off for a better parking spot, just kidding guys, when i painted my b ike, i stripped it with brake Dao 3

RE: Taking Paint off
do you guys know if this will work the same way with the painted bodies that the RTR's come with? cuz i might have a spare body, and i would like to try to do some painting with it, but it might help if i could get the paint off first.

RE: Taking Paint off
I made a mistake and painted my FG monster truck body with automotive spray cans, looked good for a least five minutes but as soon as the body gets hit the paint flakes:(. I've tried brake fluid and it dosen't even soften the paint??? Cellulose thinners will take it off but the body won't survive. I've got some old nitro fuel somewhere that i'll try but failing that what else can i get in the UK to do the job?
