I say that would depend on the style/direction you want to go.

Do you have need for speed underground 2? They have a mustang in the game you can customize the hell out of regarding colors and graphics. I am going to be doing a skyline r34 gtr drift body soon and I think I'm going to use this game to come up with some ideas.

How are you going to paint it? Are you going to use a can of spray from pactra or tamiya, or do you have an airbrush?

The Drift King 02-19-2007 08:32 AM

RE: mustang color sheme

i'll go with can

If you want to go with a single color the true blue pearl from pactra I think would be nice. The mustangs I don't think look great when the color is too dark like near black or black. The true blue pearl is dark enough to not be in your face but will also bring out the features of the body.

here's an example of one I've done.

This one used pactra true blue pearl and pactra metallic blue for the flames with the parma aggrivation mask

if you want to go bright I think this.. realy any variation of a bright color would look interesting, then use mask for the hood and the top of the wing with dark gray?

tyvm,I have some good ideas! But whats 'masking'? And that mustang is on front of the box from the body. I want to go 'darkstyle' Any suggestions?

fugadude 02-19-2007 08:50 AM

RE: mustang color sheme

masking is when you apply a tape , material, perhaps liquid mask to the inside of the body that keeps the paint from being sprayed and sticking to the polycarbonate in a certain area so that after the area you just painted is dry you can peel the mask off and then paint the other area a different color. It just allows you to paint multiple colors onto a body. Yanno like the stickers you get to put inside the body to make sure you don't paint the windows? :)

1 more question tough: can you repaint the body that comes on a rtr tamiya kit?

fugadude 02-19-2007 09:09 AM

RE: mustang color sheme

You mean like strip the paint out of it and repaint it? That I don't know.

Repainting an entire body – Do you really want to tackle this? First off, I’ve never found a way to remove paint from a lexan body once its been applied. Thinners tend to attack the plastic itself and any other paint remover I’ve tested with damages the lexan. Some people have suggested using automotive brake fluid, I haven't tried this yet. I’m open to ideas because the only method that has worked for me has been to use steel wool to sand the paint off… slowly… very slowly.

I suppose you could try, but my guess is that it wont come out that great. will probably scrape off pretty easily too.

i kno a way where u can strip the paint from a lexan body without damagin' the lexan itself...........it's called "elo" a little bit expensive, but the stuff works, google it and i'm sure u can find it somewhere, i forget exactly what website i saw it on

I had a mishap while paint yesterday, seems the rag I used to dry the inside of the body had oil on it somewhere. My paint was all jacked up, it even dried. I had paint cracks and veins everywhere. I wrote it off as a loss. Well later in the day I fugured what the hell, I soaked it in the sink and all the paint came loose. I had to rub most areas with a paper towel but it came absolutely clean. I rewashed the body, then resprayed.. I didn't have enough fascent blue to respray that color so I shot some grape glitter and then on the next coat I used fasent purple... Turned out great... I use water based Parma Fascolors and a airbrush. I'll never use a can again.

In a word, "Yes"

I do not think you'll be able to remove a Pre-Painted body from a factory.

Are you set on that body? Why not buy a New HPI body and make it what ever color you want.. You can even get the Greedy sticker sheet from HPI to add to the body of your choice.

I disagree, I think black looks awesome.. I painted these, the mustangs is FasCharcoal grey(near black pearl) with the stripes being FasBlack. I got the Ghost stripe effect I wanted. The sun has to hit it right to see the stripes.. Ohh yeah, I used FasTint to tint the windows.

Well it is actually dirty, I took those pictures after 3 heats and a A-main race.

Lexan is painted from the inside and the clear lexan acts as the clear coat, resulting in a glossy appearance.
