painting outlined flames help.
 

hi guys,im going to be painting my first body soon using paint cans.im going with flames that have a thin outline going around them,im using 2 colors of blue that are very close in color.the main part of the body will be the darker of the blues while the flames will be the lighter blue and the outline is going to be white.im going to put the mask down and sparay the darker blue,should i then try and peel the flames and paint the other blue or should i peel the border and paint the white?thanks for any tips..

There's a mask from PARMA called Aggrivation. this features tribal type flames and they are outlined. The only issue with these precut masks is they take infinite patience to get right :)

Funny I did the same idea on my nsx take a look. I used the parma aggrivation mask, metallic blue, and true blue pearl, and window tint all from pactra. Take a look and tell me if this is anythign like you're thinking.

I didn't use the outline I sniped it off from the mask but it's a perfect outline.

im pretty much doing the same thing as you did except im using parma medieval flames.im using the same 2 pactra colors as you did,i was actually thinking i should have went with a different color blue because i thought these 2 colors were almost identical and i didnt think the difference would show up much.which color did you use on what part of the body?i actually like the way the 2 colors look together,thanks a bunch for sharing the pic.

Yeah I used the true blue pearl as the darker color, and I used the metallic blue for the flame. There are no other pactra rattlecan blues which look good together in this way, I'd tried a candy blue, but it just didn't look right. I think the contrast between these two is subtle enough to look nice, the metallic blue is in the same hue area and bright enough to work as an accent.

supersize the pic and it will give you a idea of what i wanna do,it isnt the best outline job but it gives the idea of what it will look like..

I didn't back them with anything the metallic blue was the second color I sprayed to do the flames. Then I just sprayed the tint after everything was dry.

im going to back it all with white.what do you think of the pic i posted with the white outlines?

I don't know I'd use the alclad chrome to do it, but white might be interesting. Just a matter of taste, for mine I just chose not to have any outline. one I'm doing now will have white flames of a sort with a chrome outline and be painted on back end which is candy blue backed with indy silver.

i thought about using black to outline the flames and dye the wheels black but i think im just going to keep the wheels white and do the outline in white.

Beautiful flame work! how do you do such clean flames? Do you use liquid mask or use another kind of mask you precut? Anyway those are some fine examples of workmanship :)

no on those there "Templets" we sell........
there precut to help those wanting to do there own.......
the rest for the colors are freehanded.......:D
we even have window templets for custom windows....

Hi Guys my name is Max and im a newbie and i also dont race r/c i just design high detail paint masks for them and also do a lot of airbrushing, as to this thread i noticed the theme about enhancing flames with an out line and ive posted a pic of a mazda 6 ive just finished with a detailed out line. if its any help the method to get best results is to leave the fine border to last this way will give you the option wether to highlight the flames or do a gradual fadeout.
