There is nothing wrong in copying what's already out there, especially for your first paint job. Look through the post your paint job threads on here and the drifter forum and get some ideas. You can also get premade paint masks that make things a lot easier.
The best advise is to take your time. Regardless of what paint scheme you ultimately choose make sure you do really light coats. The first one sometimes doesn't even seem like you painted anything, especially in light colors. Last time I did 3 colors I ended up with 9 coats of paint in some areas. |
RE: Help getting started
Realy important to start with your darker color first. If you hve black, start with black, then silver/gray then white.
Wash the inside of the bodies with dish soap and warm water first, dry it completly with scoth towel, pt your windows mask and you're ready to start. If you can buy some liquid mask (Parma and Bob Dively make them) it's realy more easy to use than masking tape. You put 3 coat of liquid mask inside the bodies (let it dry completly between coat and apply it with a foam brush) and when it's dry, you can cut your design on it with an x-acto. Good luck;) Ho! Forget, the MOST important thing is to work in very light coat and dry it with a heat gun or air dryer toroughly between each coats. And try to back the entire job at the end with white or silver. (If you have fluorescent colors, back it with white) And if you use Faskolor water base paint, finish your job with 2 heavy coat of Faskoat to protect your paint) |
RE: Help getting started
OK, Thanks for the help. I am going to try it this weekend. I hope it turns out nice. I just don't want to waste my money for a custom job. Pre painted is out of the question anyway. Thanks guys.
