RE: F11 and Unknowns in D6
Rick,
Welcome back....
Yes, it is routine now for the current FAI Final sequence to be flown at D6 local contests. This has been the case now for a several years. Not the case for unknowns however.
Hope to see you and Stephen at the 4th annual Space City RC Club pattern event in Houston my club will be hosting May 7th and 8th. Flyer will be posted soon on NSRCA and Don Ramsey's web site.
Go Steelers!

Yeeeeaaaaah buddy bring on those unknowns! I think the issue for most people is that they'll never have to fly unknowns at the NATS so why at a local contest? But I'm with you Rick, let's mix it up a bit hehe

Rick - will be good to see you with a fine instrument in your hands again!
Unknowns? The CD or pilots will need to prepare something because the NSRCA does not have the Sequence/Unknown committee active in that area like IMAC does. Just discuss it with the CD and pilots.

All
Just my opinion but the unknowns and to some degree the F series schedules were ment for major events to provide a more difficult schedule to be able to separate, by score, "the BEST of the BEST! I do not feel local contests are the place for FAI Unknowns. It will further complicate the scoring process for local events which already have issues mixing F-11 with P-11. It will for sure push some of our current FAI pilots back to Masters and I include myself in that category! If I want to fly unknowns I will fly IMAC.[:@]

I think that it would be great to add unknowns to the local contest for FAI. I am planning on flying some FAI this season and it would be a good confidence builder for me. As far as the scoring goes I don't think that it would be that difficult to get it figured out if it had to be done. Rick and I were thinking of having a contest in the future and we both wanted to fly a unknown on Sunday for FAI. Just my .02

Stephen,
The biggest issue is that you will need to develop the unknown prior to the contest or you will have to manually enter k-factors in scoring during the contest will slow down the event. If you could have the unknown developed earlier, then you could have the scoring software ready and even print score sheets. If you tried to do it like an FAI finals where the pilots develop them, then it would take forever to get developed.

I love unknowns. Here is a link to sequence creating software.

Arch,
What I was thinking is make the unknown for my own contest since I wouldn't be flying in it myself. It would also be nice to have past Nats unknowns. How many maneuvers are usually in a unknown at the nats?

Stephen,
Are you flying FAI this year? Or just not flying in your contest? I think they are basically the same length as the normal F and P schedules. I'm pretty sure that most of the FAI guys who get to fly them, keep a copy for future reference.
