The 2012 Northern Virginia Pattern seminar will be held March 24th at the Banshee Reeks education annex facility from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We can probably start a bit later- maybe 8:30 or 9:00. This is the same site we have used in the past. If you need directions feel free to email me. ([email protected]) This seminar is not just for pattern fliers. Come out and enjoy the discussion whether you're a sport flier just beginning or you have flown for years. See you there!
Agenda:
8:30-9:00 welcome, introductions donuts, D2 announcements- Larry Kauffman
9:00-10:00 summary of rules, sequences and judging discussion- Don Szczur and Chris Moon
10:00-11:30 setup techniques- Chris Moon and ... maybe a guest speaker
11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. lunch
12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. trimming, judging, flying and demonstration flights (AMA required)
Alternate schedule (weather dependent)
12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. simulator flying/techniques (if we have several instances of Phoenix 3.0 and someone with a Droid wifi phone, we can fly muli-player on-line simultaneously).

Thanks again for another successful seminar. This year we tried to balance the judging refresher with some techniques and flying tips from Don Szczur. Since the weather was less than cooperative again, we did some simulator based judging practice which was very well received. Having a projector and a room with a huge white wall to use as a screen was great. Special thanks to Roger Hammel for coordinating the room scheduling for us.

JR, Related to your request for the airplane setup Joseph and I use, you can start with these phoenix settings and adjust from there.
From today, here is what I remember (unless Joseph put some secret adjustments):
Move CG back from Inegral stock setup to mid way between elevator and wing.
Increase aileron throw and decrease elevator throw to give the roll and pitch you are used to . I also added about 20 percent expo on both elevator and ailerons.
Decrease weight which will both slow the plane down and slow the snaps down and the spins.
Decrease rudder throw to feel about right. Note that the less rudder, the more difficult the stall turn.
Also, here is link to my original settings some time ago.

Thanks to everyone that came out to particpate in our Pattern seminar. Nice to see a great turn-out. I actually counted a couple new sportsman pilots in our group. Without you guys we can not grow. I also want to thank Don an Chris for their work in getting this together. I believe I also saw Don's family delivering Pizza and Cokes for lunch!
