First Annual Brazos Valley Fall Pattern Classic College Station, TX. Oct. 4-5, 2014
Hi guys,
We are putting on our first ever pattern meet in College Station Texas on October 4 and 5. I'm hoping to make this a great contest for all those that are interested. We will be flying the current sequences in all classes and Sportsman contestants may fly any AMA legal aircraft.
We will be having a night fly on Saturday night and there's usually a pretty big turnout when we have night fly events and some even bring the helicopters. Dinner on Saturday night will be catered by Fargo's BBQ and we will have Cody Joe Hodges and his band giving us a country performance that you won't forget out at the field.
I know that some of the guys are coming all the way from Albuquerque to this contest as well as hopefully some of the boys from Chicago. We are really excited about putting this on for y'all. The field will be open Wed-Fri for practice (plus I have to mow) and there will be a bunch of us camping with our campers and some with tents the whole weekend. You're more than welcome to join us at no cost but we don't have hook ups.
We have electricity at the field for charging and this should really be a great time. Pilot's meeting at 10:30 AM Saturday and we'll begin flying shortly after that. The field faces east with the 900 ft x 200 ft runway running north and south. The field is grass and very smooth. If there are any questions, please let me know. We hope you can make it! Pilot fee is $40 but includes the BBQ dinner. Bring your family and they can eat too for $10.
Thank you for your support!
Scott

We're only a week away and by my last count, we hoping to have over 30 pilots at the contest. Please plan to attend if you can. Several of us will be at the field starting Wednesday. We're really looking forward to it!

The weather is really shaping up for a beautiful contest. At this point, it should be fairly large. It looks like we could have 10-13 Sportsman, 8 Intermediate, 6-8 Advanced, 4-6 Masters and 4-6 FAI (hope these guys show!!). Bryan Hebert is coming for sure! Lows are in the high 50's to low 60's and high temps in the low 80's. Great food, a band, and hopefully a lot of folks, this should be a great contest. We look forward to seeing everyone there! Don't forget the night fly Saturday night so if you have those LED's on a foamy or anything else, make sure to bring it! If you have any questions, give me a holler. Some of the boys from Chicago and New Mexico will be here Wednesday as well.

Still working my way home but wanted to say thanks to Scott and the Brazos Valley club for an awesome time. Can't imagine a first-time contest being pulled off any better. Had everything: huge southern hospitality, 28 pilots, ton of great flying, great band and BBQ, even an armadillo! Well worth the trip.

Thanks to all who made the trek to our little town. We had 2 from New Mexico, 1 from Chicago and 1 all the way from Colorado show up. 28 pilots total with 3 brand new pilots. 2 competed in Sportsman and the third in Intermediate. Both of the new Sportsman pilots won rounds with Bobby Barr from RC Today Show taking second in his first contest flying an electric Laser! 6 Sportsman, 9 Intermediate, 7 Advanced, 2 Masters and 4 FAI.
I would like to give special thanks to Brazos Valley R/C Modelers club members David Moore, John Bowling, Terry Hix, and Dan Grey. A huge thank you to Leslie Hochhalter for keeping scores (she had score sheets back to the contestants as they were carrying the planes back to the pits) and to my wife, Jan (K-Factor publisher) for making two fabulous deserts for the BBQ dinner and running scores along with one my my kids, Austin, for running scores as well.
I'm honored that y'all came out for our first contest and hope to continue with this great event. Thank you to each of you also for making my job easy running the contest.

PS - Don, the armadillo was not dinner. We save that for holiday feasts

The highlight of the weekend was when Charlie "KIller" Barrera sliced the tailend off my Vanquish when I was setting up for my 2-point roll. Their was nothing salvageable after the fire. Flames seemed to be about three feet high, but it may have been less. What are the odds?

There were several close calls that day. Easily could have been another pair of planes lost. In case you hear of any planes for sale, I'm looking for a gently used Vanquish for next years flying season. Good luck this weekend!

Thanks to all the club members for putting on a great event. The competition was great, the food delicious, the band played a good variety of music, and we had a great time. Looking forward to next year. This was a premium event for a first, you guys did a great job.
