Why don't you get a hold of Dick directly?
He doesn't spend much time here on RCU anymore, but if you'll look over on RCGroups you can usually find him posting in the radio forum. Or you can search for his username here and PM him. Sorry but I don't remember exactly what that is since he uses slightly different names on three forums I visit.

Thanks Stewarcm. This one had a 140 YS in it and I had planned on OS 140Rx. Sq inch is about 820 with retracts. I fly SPA now with 91 4s on smaller birds and think maybe the Runaway will need more.
You are probably right , that's why I'm asking for input.
Thanks
Charlie

I could use recommended CG, engine, weight, length and span, and starting control throws if available. My LG seems short, did the well openings come pre-cut ?
Asking a lot but it is appreciated.
Thanks -Will

Hi Charlie,
Here's what I've got:
CG: 5.25 - 6.5" behind the LE at the root.
Engine: 90 4-stroke (OS 90 surpass used by Dick, The YS 91AC did not exist); wing area 700" sq. weight - 7 lb.
60 2-stroke; wing area 825" sq. weight - 7.5 lb.
120 4-stroke; wing area 860" sq. weight - 8.0 lb.
Length: 66"
Span: ~66"
Control throws: no specific throw were given, but DIck's preference was a lot of throw on all surfaces (to provide 'crisp snaps') in conjunction with a lot of exponential to reduce sensitivity around neutral.
The wheel wells were pre-cut, but Dick did recommend a 14x12 prop for the 120 4-stroke engine; so there should be enough clearance for a 14" diameter prop.
You seem to have the .60 sized version.
You will probably have to go with a 4-blade prop if you use the OS 140 to get adequate ground clearance. Balance may be an issue as the OS 140 weighs more than any recommended engine from that time period. If you are not committed to the OS 140, the YS 115 will be more than adequate as it has more power than the 120 4-strokes available when the Runaway/Runaround were originally designed.
Good Luck,
Will

Thanks Will,
Good info. I may have to rethink my engine choice. Seems like a lot of airplane for 60 2c or 90 4c but weighing that info against a 140 anything makes me think.
I do have a new YS 110 that I haven't been able to make run but I may need to look at it again for the Runaway.
Just wanted to try my hand with NSRCA folks.
And that's why I needed info. I really appreciate the specs, you did good.
Thanks again Will

Hi Charlie,
Glad I could help. Your YS 110 would be perfect in the Runaway. An excellent combination for the lower classes. I've belonged to the NSRCA since 1980, you will find most pattern fliers are more than willing to help out. Pattern has gone electric, with a few guys still running glow (mostly YS) engines. I'm sure there are some pattern fliers in your area that can help you set up your 110.
Good Luck!
