Default Yamada YS 115 vs 140 power

Hallo,
I am currently constructing a 120 size F3A plane with a 4-stroke engine (length 175cm / 69“).

As I had good experience with Yamada in the past, I would like to power the plane with a Yamada.
But I could not find anything about the power of the YS-115 (is there a FZ and a DZ version ?).

About 15 years ago I had the YS 140 Limited within a ~4,4kg (9,7lbs) F3A plane, power was okay.

The new construction with the enormous larger fuselage will maybe have also about 4kg (8,8lbs).

Therefore my question:
could somebody offer measurements of the YS 115 - the best would be a comparision with the 140L or 140 Dingo.

I hope the power of the 115 is close to the power of the 140 Limited, otherwise I have to look for an old YS-140.

Many thanks in advance and best regards,
Christian

I have run both the 115WS and the 140DZ quite a bit. I am still unable to do a direct comparison. The 115WS was used for warbird racing using an APC 13.5x13.5. The 140 DZ is in a bipe spinning a Engle 16x10 tri blade. Both on 30% nitro. I don't think that the 115 has the same power as the 140L, more like the same as the 120NC but in a smaller, lighter package. To be successful with the 115 I would set a goal weight of 8lbs even. My warbird with the 115 at 6.5lbs had great vertical performance and I feel it would still have been good with another 1.5 lbs but you also have the additional drag of a pattern airplane design.

Thanks für your reply.

I don’t know the 115WS - is it closer to the DZ or to the FZ version ?
A direct comparision of the 115DZ with the 140L would give me the best information about the engine power.

I do not think that I am able to reach the weight goal of 8lbs.

Regards, Christian

The WS is an FZ version with lower compression to run up to 50% nitro.

Thanks for your answers.
Does anybody have measurements with the YS 115 ? Especially with a prop-size of 14“ or better 15“.

Thanks and regards,
Christian

I’m running a YS115FZ-S here. On 30% cool power heli fuel, it’s turning a 14x12 at around 9,600rpm, awesome engine.

I’ll have to get the weight of the plane for you, has brilliant vertical, but might be smaller than what you are putting it into. It’s a 90’s 60 size F3A plane.

We used to use the 140L in 2m, 5kg pattern ships in competition.

If your weight is close to 4kg, the 115 should be OK. I would use the DZ115cdi.
