Classic pattern equipment ("Classic Pattern" RCU Forum)
If you’ve spent much time on this forum you might get the impression that the only thing in the pattern world of any interest is 2M stuff and the current FIA sequence. If the selling price of the classic pattern equipment is any measurement of interest, it looks like classic pattern interest is pretty high. Take a look at the selling price of this OS Max 61RF Ring HANNO Special and there is still over six hours of bidding to go! Item number 5976983719. Some of the Tiporare and other classic pattern kit selling prices have been incredible as well. Or this Webra 61. Item number 5969857534.
Does anyone know what the process would be to get the RCU management to create a “classic pattern” forum section?
Please take time to vote in the poll above.

RE: Classic pattern equipment
The oldies pattern stuff is alive and well here in Alabama with the SPA (Senior Pattern Association). We fly pre 1975 designed models thru the old AMA sequences, and man what good times. We had around 50 different contestants last year in our 5 contest, and are expecting over 60 this year in our 6 event schedule. Need some of you guys inputs on the best planes of that era, presently I'm fly the Jim Whitley Daddy Rabbit, and its closest competitor is the Phantom one and the A-6 Intruder (World Models), any ideas?

I am all for the classic pattern forum, the nazi's shut down my stab at the modern whales. LOL
Dirty Birdie was always (and still is) my favorite from the pre 75 era.

Hi guys,
I would like to fly some of the oldies, too. Presently trying SPA and AMA--room for one more!
The SPA is great, but can't use rear exhaust/pipes/retracts---, and lots of good designs are not allowed--.
Classic Pattern, with rear exhaust/side exhaust .61/.65 with pipe and retracts--WOW!!

A classic forum for SPA and others would be wonderful after all had it not been for the early pattern days ,you have to wonder where pattern flying would be today???The SPA is a great organization .......RCPILOT007......

I have felt that the two meter planes end up being just too costly and have started scratching and flyin g the Dirty Birdy. It has exceeded my expectations as an excellent flier and I can fly all day with one gallon of 15% in an OS 91 FS. What could be better? Vic Koenig

I have a Conquest VII with a Hanno Special 61 in it. This plane is a joy to fly, and extremely economical on fuel. I am practicing the Advanced schedule with it, and have no lack of power. At first it would not snap, but digital servos fixed that problem. The Hanno has run flawlessly for a year now, and has very low vibration, so my plane shows very little wear. I think older planes like this one can be real jewells! Don't overlook them.

Sorry, I realized that my post was inflammatory and was in poor taste and would have just caused alot of problems. So I just edited it.

I PMed Rcadmin and CMs yesterday and asked them if it would be possible to have a “Classic pattern” forum section. I suggested the forum be for pre 1990 pattern, SPA, etc.

How about pre 4-stroke (I know they were allowed all the time, but not used much in the 80s)? I really did love those last designs for the piped 61 two strokes (Jekyll, Mystic 60, Supra Star, etc) but some of them were from the beginning of the 90, like Hanno´s Mystic 60 he used to win the worlds in 1993, pretty much marking the end of the .61 two strokes.

How many posts is it in the pattern forum an average day? 10-15 at most.
I like to read about new AND old designs.
Is there really any need to split this forum ....?

I think it would be a good idea. I personally hate digging through all the "mine has more power" and "i need pics of the latest wide bodied whale" posts, to find a discussion about a real plane and not the current thrust vectoring birds.

I guess we will need to wait and see what the RCU management thinks.

It's really up to you guys if and how we split it.
I suggest posting a poll here in the pattern forum that we run for a couple weeks and ask if members want a split off of Classic Pattern. FOr those who vote "yay" they should post their definition of what would classify something as a classic so posters know what planes clearly would belong in that forum vs the regular pattern forum

I don't know the stats, but the pattern forum can't run more than 10-20 posts per day and very few of those relate to old school pattern stuff. I like reading about some of the old stuff as much as the next guy
Seems like the easiest way to show a need for a forum split would be to fill this forum with the things you old-schoolers want to discuss with each other.........Not just one wandering thread to reminisce about the good times, but legitimate threads that relate to specific products, aircraft, engines, rules issues, etc...
