If its the Desire 120 I can get them for you later today. I built one several years ago and still have the
plans.

Nothing could help a Desire 120 more than to install a YS 160 with 15x15 APC

Hi Jim,
I did not know that the desire came in more than one size. I think that my desire is the 90 size. It has a wing span of 62 inches and a length of 69 inches. Thanks in advance for the help.

The plans I have are for the Desire 120 (dated 10/91). It has a 66" wingspan and is 71.5" in length, 925 sq. in. and 8.5-9.5 lbs.
The CG is shown on the center of the wing tube. No control surface throws are given.

Hello Mark,
Still trying to figure out which version you have: there were only two versions: the first was the fiberglass fuselaged 120 four-stroke sized Desire 120.
The exhaust system for this airplane was intended to run beneath the wing in a very shallow belly pan. There is a large hatch on top, and a small chin cowl for the engine.
The other was the wooden fuselage with fiberglass top-pan original Desire intended for a piped 60. This plane had no top hatch or belly pan, and a chin pan that ran to the leading edge of the wing. The pipe was supposed to be routed above the wing in this airplane.
Many flyers opted to put 90 four-strokes in them and run the exhaust outside or below. I have a set of plans for the 60 sized ship, and if it has a CG position stated on them, I will write you with it tomorrow.
Throws aren't a big deal: start with about twenty degrees throw on the elevator, and fifteen on the ailerons.
The rudder should throw about 40 degrees each way.
There are Pattern nuts in your area: try looking up the RAMAC club nearby.

best of luck, Dean Pappas

Hello again Mark,
The original 60-sized Desire, as designed by Mike McConville and published in Flying Models, had a 64" span, and was 656 inches long (probably without the spinner)
The CG on the plans is 7-5/8" back from the leading edge at the root.
Hope this helps,
Dean Pappas

I used to have the CG and throws written in marker on my workbench, but I finally wiped it off a few years ago.

My memory isnt good enouigh to remember. The FM article Dean mentioned might have that info fo rthe 60 size. If you have the 120 (full glass fuse and 2-piece wing) the throws from the 60 would be fine, but he Cg would be different.

Holy cow, thats 15 years ago!!!!!

Funny I actually have the Flying Models issue on my desk. I built an early 60 sized version from Mike's copied hand drawn plans and fiberglass parts. (I built two actually) I still have one which my son was flying with over the summer (first lessons on a buddy box) and just recently found the magazine which I pulled out for him to look at. Anyway if you are interested I copied the pages below. I changed the pipe location to below the wing in a hand carved bellypan. It bulged out in the center just a bit to conceal the pipe. I also changed things around to accept a 2 piece wing.

Whoa - My Desire isn't looking that great anymore. And I'm going to resist Jim's comment to throw the 160 DZ on there. But I can certainly tell you that the Desire is one of the most "Locked On" planes I have ever put my hands on. Ryan is trying to get me to resurrect mine for a little BPA fun... We will see!

Pictures of mine are hanging out in the old Apopka contest thread...

There is something really beautiful about the Desire. Are the plans and foam cores still available? This looks like something I would want to build.
