Would be awesome if you had some. I'm actually building one at the moment and sticking a YS110 in it. I had the slingshot in the roof of my garage for over 10 years as I used to be in Pattern and Pylon racing. I still love the lines of the plane and can't find any pictures anywhere of one

I have a kit for the 2mtr Slingshot and hope to get it flying this year. You can still get one as the guy who makes the Cyclone kits has got the molds for this and the ex-Bolly kits. He talked me into this when I contacted him about getting a Mastro. It has balsa molded in with the glass and is very light. The reason that I went for this slightly older design was to keep a good power ratio with my old Y.S140FZ. I felt that it was not going to work as well in a larger wide body pattern model. Matt

Yeah the 2m slingshot is called the Bigshot. I saw one flying at the Illawarra field about 2 weeks ago, flew very well. I'm still good friends with David McFarlane as he helped me out a lot when I was starting out as kid. The Slinghot's have bit of sentimental value to me. Mine is getting close to being finished now, and will hopefully fly ok with the YS 110 it. They used to go good with the YS 91 in them and the YS 110 is actually the same size as the 91 with more power and actually a bit lighter so will be interesting

No, the 2mtr version is still called the Slingshot. It was the last of the Slingshots before he went onto the Bigshot. I also have the plans for this model and it is an all wood model, basically it was the first wide body design in Aus, and was the next generation from the Slingshot. Matt

I haven't seen that one then. The Slingshot I have is the original one with Fibreglass fuse and foam core wings and tail. David told me they still have the molds as well. It actually took me 3 months to get a new clear canopy for it

Have you spoken to Dave Macca he may have some photos of his early Slingshots back then they would have been his yellow, black and red colour scheme the Slingshot you have is the old 60 size from the late 1980s Peter Goldsmith flew them at the 1991 world championships powered by OS 61s it was the best 61 powered desgin of the late 80s early 90s in Australia so your YS110 should have more than enough power the 2 mtr Slingshot came out in 96-97 for the 120 I built Dave,s 2 Bigshot prototypes that he flew at the 2001 world championships which were YS140 powered

Yeah, I remember seeing those slingshots myself and probably have them on old video tape somewhere but was after if anyone had any pics of them. They originally used the hanno 61's in them and then the YS 91's so hopefully my YS110 should pull it well. If no one has the pics I can get them off Dave myself as i'm still good friends with him

Thanks for that Hank. Is that the 2m slingshot?? I notice he's got the fixed undercarriage on it, Glassed in canopy and extended side vents in the nose. Do you have any more pics? great to see one again! does anyone have one in the garage for sale anywhere? David has already gotten rid of his last one and same with his dad Brian

Hi matt13,

thank you, got your PM and replied to it. Many Thanks for the info.

Hi babbott78, it is the 2m Slingshot. I have it in storage at the moment, but I will send you some new pics once I have it fitted out and ready to fly.
I believe David still sells the 60-sized Slingshot kits. Now, if someone would kit a Curare again (C'mon MK). [sm=thumbup.gif]

Cheers.

Hi babbott78,

Ahhh, the memories of the Slingshot pattern ship(s). I do have some photos of the Slingshot tucked away and will happily dig them out. I think my best piccy would be of Peter Goldsmith holding the Slingshot that he competed with in the 1991? F3A World Championships when they were held at Wangaratta. To my mind, the Slingshot was probably the most stylish and one of the best from that era before the size/format changes occurred. Luckily, I still have three of them all suberbly built by Tom Prosser, each of them in perfect condition. I took a long break from the sport as I started into large scale until eventually spending a lot of time in 1:1 scale ... )

I will happily scan a piccy or two for you and send.
Keep the blue side up,
PJO

That would be awesome! thanks for that. I took a 13 year break from the hobby too and you spot on the money with the slingshot. I was starting to compete in Pylon racing when I left the hobby due to time factors and already was competing in F3A but just in sportsman as I didn't have a lot of moneyback then! I won the NSW interclub Aerobatics comp (was starting uni etc) Tom P actually flies at bit at my old home field a bit now(Shoalhaven Flying Model Flying Club).

Are you interested in selling one of the slingshots? Mine was actually in the roof my the garage for 13 years perfectly stored (Cores and fuselarge) and I got it down about a year ago now and have been finishing it. I've just got to basically mount the engine now and paint the fuse and cover the wings and stab and i'm finished (took 13 years!),

thanks mate, Brendan

Hi Brendan,

Apologies for the delay in reply, have been busy working and on a couple of fly-aways. I've included a piccy of Peter Goldsmith and his slingshot taken at the 1991 world F3A chanpionships held in Wangarrata. T'was a lovely pattern ship and I still reckon that the slingshot figures as both the most stylish and the top of the line in terms of development for that time. I appreciate your offer to purchase one of the slingshots that I have. However, I feel that I would be doing a disservice to Tom in actually selling something that was built specifically for myself. I still treasure those a/c as they are built with all the care and precision that Tom puts into his work.

In returning to the hobby/sport, I find that my fingers are not quite what they used to be so am starting out again with a reasonable sportsman a/c (a PC9). Odd really, I have no qualms about flying full-size in day/night/imc but get a little apprehensive about putting a sleek pattern ship up there!!!

keep the blue side up,
Peter

Hmm... struggling to find a means to load image file...

Hi Babbott78,

Shane Austin is flying David's old Slingshot now. See here http://users.tpg.com.au/austin_s/NSW_F3A/Home.html

There is a comp at Pitt Town next month if you're interested.

Cheers
Jason.
