Default 2 Meter Pattern Airframe for less than$100??

Is it possible to build a 2 meter pattern plane for less than $100 for the airframe and not have to spend 40 hours getting there?

Recommended kit? Plans?

Not looking for competition level machine. Just nice tracking, decent lines, good knife edge, and pattern practice. Maybe even 3D capable with the right motor...but not main concern.

I remember an old airframe called the Boxer that would make a nice pattern trainer..with some 2003 modifications could make it 3D capable....anyone have some old plans? Or even some basic pattern airframe plans in CAD format??

I'm getting bored with hovering...need to get some precision under my belt. THere's just nothing like a pretty 8 point roll tracking like an arrow across the field...

Thanks!!

Default I hear ya Herb...

That is exactly why I am flying IMAC and Pattern this year. Hovering is cool and all.....but boring......

Default Agree Pugs...

You got it Pugs....
I'm tired of showing up at the field and just tossing my plane around the sky. I'm ready to add some skill and INTENT to the way I fly.

I forgot to mention. I'd be happy to just get some dimensions from your average Pattern aiframe. I can design somthing if I have close enough measurements. Aproximates work for me cause I'm not afraid to use a little TLAR (that looks about right) in my construction.

LE to F1 -
TE of main wing to LE of Horz Stab -
Main Wing Span -
Horz Stab Span/chord/area -
Overall length -
Fuse Height at tallest point -
Fuse width -
Fin/Rudder height/area/average chord -

Three-views, pics, plans...all work for me...post em, and lets have some fun with this!!!

Thanks!

Default Check out....

Gatorrc.com. They offer 2 meter plans and core sets. You should be able to scratch up a plane from that....

Default Low cost 2x2?

Check http:\\picayzumba.net. (click on the link "Aviones" and then on "TRAZATOR" - the third one)

Juan Baños (a spanish modeller) posted the plans of his "TRAZATOR". It is a full 2x2 pattern ship. He used an OS 140 RX to power the plane. He also posted the planes of the "TREPATOR", a .61 size ship, which is the basis of the larger model.

Here's the corrected link...

However, none of the zip files appear to be downloading. They may have been taken offline..

Default Recommended Mods to Sabia?

Would anyone like to recommend any modifications to The Sabia?

I'm thinking larger control surfaces for just about all of them.

Just at tad bit taller fin/rudder with a little wider chord on the bottom of rudder to compensate for the taller fin in knife edge.

Maybe a little taller turtledeck....without wrecking the lines of it....too much.

Also...fixed gear option to keep it cheap.

Full span ailerons??? Maybe.... is there a drawback to that?

Thanks for the feedback!

Yep, I'd change the canopy shape a bit, raise the vertical about 10%, and run the ailerons out about 1 inch from the end, and run them inboard another 25%, but that's me.... And I'd change the stab shape to reflect that light 'edge of wing' taper to the trailing edge like the main wing is, just to make it more symmetrical, you know?

Oh yeah, and definitely fixed gear. And, if you follow present pattern trends, you'd have to almost double the width of that fuselage around the wing saddle area... put little scoops around the spinner.... All that stuff. But now we're talking another plane...

Default 2 Meter Pattern Airframe for less than$100??

Hello!
i would make the body wider ...is this a 120 size???
i have designed one that i working on now ...14 cm wide body and ..learned that this is not that wide.
put stab and engine at same line..center line.
Yes i would lift all body ..just dont make tail to smal beause that can make it bad in cross wind , fixed gear is good.
fullspan ailrons..is out!
And keep weigth down ...

Default 2 Meter Pattern Airframe for less than$100??

This plane is a poor rendition of Mike McConville's Desire published in Flying Models some years ago. Whoever drew this plan changed the wing taper and altered some other parts. The original plane had retracts and a YS 61 rear exhaust with the tuned pipe running inside the plane (between the canopy floor and the wing). Mr McConville put the tank in the canopy (fiberglass one) and the servos in a hatch behind the wing TE. It is definitely a .60 sized ship (about 64" x 64").

I think a blown up GP Tracer would be as good as the original Desire...
