Tuny,

Any progress lately? I have settled on how to mix-out the roll coupling. I spent 6 flights yesteray determined the best way to mix it out. Because the plane flys with such little rudder movement (especially with T-cannalizer), you need to use a Point mix and set it at 3% flat to start. Then, between the neutral point, and about 40% of your rudder-stick movement, you want the mix to rise from "0" to 2% (move the rudder stick and you can see the corresponding mix point value). From 40% to the 100% of the stick movement, you can raise from 2% to 3 or 4%, whatever you end up with. The linear mixes just don't work well because again, due to the low amount of rudder movment, a 4% linear mix is almost undetectable.

Thanks,
Jim

Finally!!!! more work done..

Rudder and rudder post.

the standard rudder post for the fuselage was to big and heavy so I decided to build a smaller one from 3/16 balsa and 1/16 balsa cross grained. so its very strong and light, I saved 10 grams.

- rimmed the end of the fuselage straight
- trimmed the rudder traling edge to its particular curve and added 3/16 balse trailing edge, i dont like to leave it with just foam and covering...
- new rudder post
- leading and trailing edges on rudder
- rudder post glued to fuselage with epoxy and microbaloons
- some sanding on the rudder and glued the rudder tip blocks.

some pictures...

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYBODY!

More work done.

finished the rudder post, sanded double beveled for extra rudder throw.
then installed hinges
instal the rudder in place and hold it tight with some masking tape so I can sand the rudder tips to shape using the fuselage as a guide.
marked rudder control horn location and rudder pull-pull cable exit holes in fuse using a long thread holding it from where the rudder servo should go.
installed rudder horn
installed tail wheel.

Wheel pants.

I installed the wheels and wheel pants using a 8/32 screw as an axle, and a 2-56 screw with blind nut as an anti rotation screw, wheels are Du-bro lite wheels, in my opinion the ligthest on the market. they are mounted on 1/16 plywood, with balsa used to match the pant shape, everyting glued with CA and kicker, the wheel pants are made from polyester resin so epoxy will not hold there.

Engine instalation

first made room in the nose to fit the engine and opened the side cooling holes.
then the engine will be mounted on a YS super mount, to do this first I made a template of the mounting plate shape and made a 1/8 balsa dummy mounting plate
next make some ingeniering to make all that engine parts to fit in the nose and be aligned at the correct angle....(still working on that part..)

pictures so far...

Tuny,

There are several pictures about a similar installation in this web page: http://www.deltafly.com.ar/gallery_inst/index.php

Click on the "Genesis", "Osmose", and "Passport YS170" options on the left side of the screen and you will see how CaModel does it. Mr. Stabile is the pro builder for CaModel in Argentina.

Default RE: CAMODEL PASS-PORT BUILD (very slow)

thanks aresti, good help.

engine instalation.

First sanded de spinner plate on the fuselage and glue 4 small pieces of 1/16 balsa to get spinner clearence
then installes the engine with spinner and worked with the plane vertical, this way I let gravity do the alingnin job for me, I let the spinner sit on the fuselage at its correct angand then installed my dummy mount to make a template with the fuse shape.
designed the engine mount using a structure made of 1/8 plywwod (where needed) and complete the shape with balsa to save weigth, and then laminated with carbon on both sides.
installed the blind nuts in place (four 3mm screws will hold the engine in place)
finally installed the engine and spinner again, aligned everything and glued with epoxy and microbaloons.

Thanks Jim! glad you like it, did you get your new kit yet?

Firewall: the supplied firewall was 1/4 balsa laminated with glass on both sides, really strong!, but using the YS mount is not necessary a strong firewall, so I made a new one with 1/8 balsa, sanded to reduce weigth an then laminated with carbon on both sides, it ended up really ligth about 16 grams less than the stock one.

then trimmed out the spiner plate on the fuse.

finally engine instaled, everything aligned as it should be!... great!

more work done..

-Needle valve opening, (needle valve extension is a sullivan flex cable with a wheel collar soldered in one end, and some fuel tubing to protect the fuse)
-cowling holding screws, two 4-40 screws will hold the cowl, atached up to down, acces thru the side cooling holes in the fuse, mounted on 1/8 lite ply reinforcements.
-Extra cooling exits, after doing some "math" I think some extra exit is needed to correct ventilation so I added two extra holes in the back at the end of the pipe tunel.
