2009 AMA Pattern Rules Proposal Survey
As you all know the new AMA rule cycle begins January 1. Although a two year
process, basic rules change proposals must be submitted by Sept. 30 of year 1.
In the past a poll has been developed to give all pattern flyers who are AMA members
an opportunity to present ideas, gauge interest and prepare them as possible formal
rules change proposals. I have volunteered to help generate this year's survey but time is short
and I need your help. We need to cast as broad a net as possible to ensure we contact
as many active pattern flyers as possible. Posting a thread on RCU, Flying Giants, RC Groups plus
notices in Model Aviation and the K-Factor come to mind. Once we allow a reasonable time for the suggestions to be submitted they will be reviewed, the poll prepared and published in the K-Factor as well as nsrca.us website. At that point they will be voted on by all AMA members. We will
use the results to develop the proposals. The ideas we need aren't "the snap/spin rules stink; yes or no"? or "somethings gotta be done about such and such"! The submissions should be in the form of a choice of specific alternatives to a rule, or a situation the member would
like to see improved or changed.
Will you help me?
Now is your chance to help make pattern better!
I am attaching the most recent survey from 2005.
The formal rules change procedure is here http://www.modelaircraft.org/events/...708General.pdf
beginning on page 4 of this AMA document.
Please fell free to PM or email your proposals to the email address below:

Thank you!

RE: 2009 AMA Pattern Rules Proposal Survey
My personal take on this rules thing lately is that we have been trying to make too many changes at one time. For once I'd like to see nothing more than a new sequence for Masters and Advanced this time around. I think Sportsman and Intermediate are not in need of a change yet. By now you would think we would have gotten things straightened out. I'm especially tired of trying to reinvent the wheel over and over again on snaps, spins and airplane size and weight requirements. Lets leave these things more or less alone for awhile. It seems that we are always in constant turmoil when it comes to the rules. This survey should be short and sweet for once. And no more of this we should do because FAI does unless it is really a terrific idea that makes sense for us.
