Ohio Valley Pattern Classic Wrapup
This year's Ohio Valley Pattern Classic has come and gone and it was the biggest yet. I'll start with the results and close with a few general pictures and remarks.

Sportsman was our largest class, with six flyers. Peter Van Huesden of Michigan took first, Teo (Viva Peru) Terry was second, and Dan Bregar from the Cleveland area was third.

There were five flyers in Intermediate. Michael Cilles won a tight battle with Jim Gruntkowski. Scores were so close that Michael's mom Cathy, who handled scoring duties all weekend, recused herself from calculating the results! Contest Director Rick Cilles made the jump to Intermediate this year and overcame a crash and engine problems over the last couple of weeks to finish a fine third.

Vern Koester led the Masters field, followed by Brenner Sharp (with his amazing contra-rotating prop system...more later) and Mark Radcliffe. Mark made his return to competition at this contest last year in Advanced and made the jump to Masters this year.

Mark Atwood won FAI over Dave Johnstone. This class was interesting because Mark won the event flying Dave's airplane.
Mark's beautiful Spark fell victim to, well, pilot error and Dave and Mark shared Dave's airplane for the Sunday rounds. Mark manned up and admitted to a mistake and Dave showed great sportsmanship in sharing his plane.

We were bottom heavy, classwise. Of the 21 pilots who flew eleven of them were in Sportsman or Intermediat.
Here sportsman pilots Bill Kutchel and Dave Ruminsky team up on a flight.

Hello all,
Great contest! I would like to thank Rick and the rest of the St. Clairsville club for hosting the contest. The weather was very nice with both days being CAVU and with light winds. I thought that it was funny that people mention the food at this events, but I must confess that the chicken was exceptionally good: very similar to what we have in Peru.
I have enclosed a few photos. As in my previous contest, I did not take nearly as many as I should have.
1) Practice, Friday evening.
2) Flight line, Saturday morning.
3) Brenner's contra Integral. Very neat concept with a very unique sound when flying.
4) Peter's Temptation.

Cathie and Nancy hard at work with the scoring program, and a shot of the parking area. This may be the largest group we've had for an event at this field.

Peter VanH and his lovely assistant on Sunday.
The skies were like this all weekend, not a single cloud. Oddly, most of us had trouble seeing wings level against this background, although we could see the results, lol.

We had some great door prizes donated by Airtronics and YS/Futaba. Sportsman flyer Bill Kutchel won a certificate for 50% off on YS products. Will he be able to resist the Temptation to move up to a 2M airplane for next year?
