first pattern aerobat, advice please
I am just getting into pattern aerobatics. Been flying since March, solo'd in May and flying novice routine with a GP Escapade. I realise i need a bigger, symmetrical wing plane with longer tail moment and am looking at a few .60 to 1.20 size pattern planes.
Phoenix accipiter Black Horse Bravo 303 CA Epsilon if you have experience of anyof these or more suggestions I'd like to hear them. Also, i am considering a DLE 20cc gasser. Thoughts? |

Check with Piedmont Models. They may have a few Focus Sport's left, in the ARC version. Take's 110 engine, 4C. They are selling out of these now, $200.00 plus shipping.

Focus Sport for $200 is a great deal. I started pattern with the Great Planes Venus II, which you can get for $280 or less. Flies great on a YS 1.10 or an OS 120AX. I really liked that plane for starting out on.
Oh crap, discontinued, never mind... |

Edit. One guy said they are not in stock anymore. Postage is high price to pay.

Is an electric plane an option?

RE: first pattern aerobat, advice please
Hey TimBle you might take a look at the Sebart Angel 50. I have seen it fly in advance class and is a great plane. It flys large. Makes a much larger impression in the air. We had another pilot fly it completely through the P-1 schedule, and it greatly impressed that pilot. It is offered in several electric combionations, and also offer a doubler kit for glow power.Using thier weight and knowing the weight of a .91 Os 4T, it would weigh about 6#12oz wet. Thier Electric weight is about 6# 8-10oz. The owner was flying it this week-end at Dallas, taking his 2meter elec for back-up. here is a link

About Phenix Accipiter:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyII0DVVyQ4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frBUaM1eCcg Flyies great with a OS 120 III and it's the cheapest decent option you have. Piedmont models Focus is also great but I don't know how it goes with a OS 120. If you need more references about the accipiter, just let me know. Regards and welcome to the Pattern world. |
RE: first pattern aerobat, advice please
Thanks for info thus far. The FOcus Sport is sold out, besides it would have cost nearly $300 to ship it to South Africa!!
I'd prefer not to fly an electric. I do know they are the rage at the moment and an absolute must for F3A category but a decent motor and batteries WILL break the bank. I'll need at least 6packs to get decent amount of flying in on a practice day. I amy still opt for 25e size for practising in the park dow the road from my home. Right now I'd prefer to stick with Methanol or opt for the new DLE 20cc gasser. Accipiter looks good. The controls surfaces are huge so I guess its similar to a Showtime? |
RE: first pattern aerobat, advice please
I don't know the Showtime... Big surfaces gives you the option of 3D if you like too.
