CONTEST GIVEAWAY: Anyone know what this thing does?

Hi from Glowplugboy Land,

A recent estate purchase has garnered this device. It is from "Roger's Custom Products". The logo is a pattern plane, so I presume it has something to do with pattern. Looks sort of like something one might use to pull off cowboy boots:D

Anyway, if anyone knows what it does, please respond. Person with the most creative response, determined by me, GPB, will receive it free of charge, provided you are in the lower 48 states, and no I'm not kidding ;).

Thanks,

GPB

1/4 scale lawn chair for my pattern pilot while he's cooling off between flights.

Seems to be missing the webbing, which is probably why it was just sitting around at an estate sale.

Boy, my little pilot would really like that chair, hope he doesn't see this...[X(]

My Guess is it goes over the rear of the fuse for starting purposes on hard terrain? Kind of like those things that hold your plane in place when you start it on the grass. But this one is for hard surface...Cement or whatever.

Thanks Joe. So you would call this device the "Pattern Plane Hard Tail Holder Restrictor Thingy"? Very creative.

The true answer (probably of course) is that it is a transmitter stand to hold your radio while starting your plane and to keep it off the ground. This company, which I cannot remember who it is because I'm old now and can't read the tag, also makes awesome airplane stands that are great for field repairs and stand about 3 feet tall or so.

My other answer would be that it's a degree finder with padded hand grabs for judges. The second pictures demonstrates the 45 and the 60 degree marks.

Why everyone knows that's a tail dragger! It's for support when you are crouched over what used to be your prized showpiece weeping bitter tears. :D

Gents, GPB,

For 45 years I do aero modeling so I do know what that is.
It has to do with a power panel and an electrical starter motor.

This is also again an unnecessary thing keeping us all busy for nothing.

The bungee cords give it away guys com'on...
It's a PPP launcher - Poor Pattern Performance. (or Piss-Poor Pattern Performance to the old guys). Used for spectators to launch tomatoes or other mushy fruit or veggies at pattern planes that are pulling zeros and such. The pattern plane sticker is not a logo but a target identifier. It had to be added on a later revision because the crowd were shootin' 'mators at just about anything that moved. The FAI ultimately banned these, then most just used them as Tx stands.

Fellas, thanks for all of your responses. I am of the opinion that this thing could be well used by any of your descriptions, BUT, the winner has to be gaRCfield in Ohio! His little quarter scale pattern pilot needs a place to rest during those long waits between rounds, and all he has to do is supply some quarter scale webbing for this lawn chair.... CONGRATULATIONS!!!:D:D:D

No it is a mini wing stand for holding the wing before you put it on the fuselage. The padding protects it. It is the table top version.

Gents, GPB,

Maybe some people did ask themselves. „Why such a stupid answer?“

I will tell, seeing that thing AGAIN did make me sad. In the past it was mine and made by my grandpa!!
In the early seventies we were famous in the Netherlands, a few pattern pilots, a crowd of enthusiastic people and all our own fanclub.

After an intensive day of flying it was the duty of the flightline officer to clean our shoes before we could drive home.
So, sitting on the driver chair in our car, foot outside on this “shoe cleaning and shining foot rest”, did give the officer the possibility to let shine our shoes as new and keep the mud out of the car.
Sometimes one of the young female fans did want to clean our shoe first. No problem but let them shine was a specialty of the flight line officers.

Yes, that were the times.

Now? You can have that “shoe cleaning and shining foot rest” for nothing, times are changed. You will not find an officer to do a workshop for shoe shiner so the rest is useless too for me.
Now I do have our typical Dutch solution, wooden shoes, to exchange when entering the car. Even that I have to do myself.
I still have the shoe cleaning kit of that period see second picture, I kept it to use at home
Yes, times were changed and the old stuff will follow us forever,

Old Pattern Flyer.

Edit: My grandpa was called "Roger the inventor!"
