Piorun Models Python Pattern ship? Anyone....
 

I've been sucked into the precision, and looks of pattern planes and managed to find a plane I like. Now... this Python model is priced right and has sweet lines IMO....

My question is: Has anyone ever owned, built, seen, or flown this model before? How does it build? And what about quality?

Pattern does become consuming! But you will love it.
A friend flew a Python a few years ago with a YS 1.40 FZ. From what I remember is performed well until a mid air at the end of the season. If memory serves the original was over 2m long so check your length. The stories I have heard Piorons(sp) work was very good when he finally delivered. Try Falcon hobbies I think they still sell some of his stuff. You may even find Henry's address on the NSRCA site.

Yepper, we have a quite a few around here. I have flown one once a couple of years back. They are fine planes, a little too sleek for me, I like the fat lady look :) Anthony is right, the originals were over length but that has been fixed so if you are getting a newer kit then you will have no problem. Henry produces top notch kits, you will not be dissapointed. The kit is the same as a standard pattern kit as far as building goes, the instructions I have had from Piorun have always been pretty good about describing techniques and how to perform certain building tasks. If you are concerned about building get the book called building a pattern plane, cant remember who writes that one, but it is good maybe someone else on here remembers how to get one.

Yes, I found it at Falcon Hobbies. I'm new to pattern flying, Is 2M the max length or something? I'm getting it to mainly enjoy flying, but I may take it to the occasional pattern fly in.

What engine would be the best choice, the YS 140DZ, or the OS 140RX? I'm a YS guy, but the expense of the new DZ is mind boggling, just exploring some options. Anyone have an OS 140RX?

I used to have Mike McConville's personal Desire pattern plane, I couldnt bring myself to fly it, and ended up selling it on eBay.... Now I wish I had it again.:rolleyes::)

If you are a YS guy then I would say try to get your hands on the 140L, or even an FZ if you can find one (there are a couple for sale on the NSRCA website). The one I flew had the OS 140RX and I didnt like the way it flew with that motor (I am a YS guy as well :)) , it could have been his setup but the plane was too fast for my liking, I also dont think there is much room for the 2-stroke pipes. The DZ is one awesome motor but the L is also an excellent motor and can be had used for probably around $400 if you look hard.

Its funny....

When I need one, I SCOUR the forums several times a day searching for a good YS engine. I never find one, or ones I do find are overpriced, so I keep looking.
Now, If I miss one "RCU session", or am a little late getting there, I will find one of those "YS 140L with accessories, $350 shipped". And of course, I'll be too late! :(

I was wondering if you can773 have herd much on the Olimpion from them i have 2 in the box and a new 140l and every thing i need and was wondering if they are good plans????

We have quite a few Olympians around here as well, and 4 Oly Medals (that I know of) on the way for this summer. I managed to get my hands on the original Oly with a 140FZ in it. It flew quite nice, they are very capable ships and should give you years of flying before needing to switch models. Keep the weight to around 10 lbs, and you will have a great combination.

Hey everyone. I have built and flown both the Python and Olympian. Both are OUTSTANDING planes.

The Python can get to be heavy as it is 78.5X78.5. Built mine a little heavy but didn't have too. A 140FZ got a little weak at 5000ft but was still able to do both the Intermediate and Advanced sequences.

The Oly I built is probably under 10lbs. The FZ flies it great. An L is just more power, but not really needed. I've built 2 Oly's and neither required ANY mixing for coupling with the rudder.

Have an Oly Medal on the bench. Am anxious to see if it flies as well as the other 2.

henry's kits are tremendous. Much better than competitors in the quality of fiberglass and atention to detail. The wing tube comes installed so you can't set the wing up incorrectly. Incidence is still the builders job, but the wing tube is STRAIGHT without effort. Makes mounting the stab extremely easy. To make the point, the other kits come with marks on the side of the fuse and the builders job to mount the wing tube. You see, lots of room for error here.

If you are serious about pattern, would recommend crosswing flying by Don Apostilo(?) avail at Don's hobby shop. Lots of ways to get that straight vertical regardless of wind.

I too love the idea of the Pre-installed wing tube!

Yes, I fly at North Dallas, thats why I "got bit" by the pattern bug!! Its great there, lots of friendly people.
