JR DS 8231 for ailerons?
 

I have JR's DS 8231 to use on ailerons on a pattern ship are they worth the price??

If you haven't bought the Servo yet and JR is more your taste then I would go with the DS8411.

if brand doesn't matter I would consider the ATX 94773M 194oz 0.12 speed @ 6v makes for a great servo for ailerons. Thats what I run and I am very happy with them.

Yes I have flown Airtronics great systems and first digital servos which were excellent the 10 channel willl probablly be my first 2.4 radio system .I allready have the JR DS8231 and have them on the market.

The 8231 should be fine, and in fact should be better than the 8411 for a number of reasons. It's a nylon gear servo, which is better for weight and precision over the metal gears not to mention cost of replacement and wear from use. It puts out roughly 113oz" of torque on 6V which should be enough for ailerons on a pattern airplane.

Yes, but you'll be hard pressed to tell a difference.

8231s will be fine. As a general rule of thumb, I do not like standard sized servos on ailerons, and in the future if you're looking for an excellent aileron servo, I would look into the JR DS9411.

Precision sounds good Doug and @6v producing over 100oz" torque.. When I think of flying in the early seventies with KPS-12 Kraft Proportional servos ....well its amazing[8D]

Yeah, they're fine, As a matter of fact, I had 8231's on the corners of my aicraft for about 3 years. Theyre still going strong with no visible signs of slop.

I wouldn't use them on a rudder, but for an elevator half, or an aileron, they're just the ticket.

While we're speaking of aileron servos, any rumors/opinions on the Hitec 7775's??

I have a couple of them but have not used them yet. Specs look excellent. Torque 124oz at .10sec on 6v.

Speed and torque seem right, but I'd be a little wary of MG's in a glow plane.

I've not had a good time with them in the past.

The biggest issue I have seen with Hitec's over the years are lack of centering. I've even seen people put them on a bench and they look like they are working fine, but when you fly them, they tend to hunt. Just my personal experience helping trim planes with Hitec equipment previously,

The Futaba 9154's are working great on the ailerons of the Sickle, and for that matter the 9650's on elevators and 9156 on rudder are superb. No centering problems there!

The only wrinkle with the 9154's is the size, which as you know is slightly larger than most current "standard" servos and are thus more difficult to install. Because of this, I was not able to take full aerodynamic advantage of their recessed design as it would have meant removing too much material from the wings. Not bad at all, but just not completely optimum.

The S9551's and the BLS551's work great for ailerons in electric planes. Smaller size, but don't need all the carving for the 9154's. They aren't as great on glow, but they are awesome on electric,

I've flown 8231's on ailerons and they are great servos. In fact my Temptress still has the 8231 on ailerons today. I lost one servo last year after about 1750 flights but in went another 8231. Plane is starting its 8th year of service (2 stroke powered the whole time)

But I echo Ryan's sentiment on the 9411SA. It is a smaller, lighter servo that works super on ailerons and has plenty of muscle to spare, even on 4.8 volts. That's what I have in my new Aesthesis

Point is, either way, you can't go wrong
