Well, It Had To Happen-
I guess O.S. wasn't satisfied to be sitting on the sidelines any longer. Too much business being lost ...Check this out and you'll see what I mean. (Thanks to D.Adamisin for sharing this on STUNTHANGAR)

I'm gonna hurl. First, the Adamisin's going electric, and now this!
Chris... |
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
Sweet!
This isn't too much of a surprise given that one of their top pilots is flying electric now. Maybe YS will be next... |

RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
I saw a supre tigre electric a week ago
|
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
I'm actually surprised that it's taken this long.
Matt - I think it's too late for Central to go E at this point. F3AUnlimited has pretty much eclipsed them as the pattern supplier for all things electric. And let's not forget that more than 50% of the pattern community is still glow, even in the USA and higher outside the USA. Central still is the go to shop for the glow community. |

RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
Maybe some places it's 50% glow. Certainly not in my district. The rarity is a glow engine. When Jim Kimbro switched last year, that was about the last die hard!

RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
We're all electric locally, but going to contests I'd say 1/3 of Masters, most of advanced and Intermediate, and all of Sportsman are glow. FAI is 100% electric here, as is 2/3rd's of the masters guys.
Should be interesting to get some stats from the worlds and Nats this year. |
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
victorville contest had 2 or 3 slimers and the rest electric (18 total)
Miramar last year was 23 pilots.. 2 or 3 slimers... |

ORIGINAL: zedad71 ORIGINAL: stuntflyr I'm gonna hurl. First, the Adamisin's going electric, and now this! Chris... Oh, I was just kiddin' around. Bobby's been electric for a while and Denny and I think Dave Adamisin are full on electric Stunt too. Four out of twenty-two were glow at the last D7 contest I attended. It's definitely going that way, with ST and OS it seems they're gettng positioned for the inevitable. Chris... |
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
Hey Mark,
4 of us have made the switch from St.C. Scott McNickle, Dave Ruminski, Michael and myself. 4 different motors but all will be running the 80 ICE from Castle. See you in Muncie? Rick |
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
For me, it's great that OS get involved. They need to come up with complete Motor/ESC/battery packages. It's going to be real interesting to see how the Glow brands hold up against the new brands (Hack' Pett! etc) I guess they'll do very well in the sports market. The pro F3A scene could be a different matter though, they tend to favour the smaller specialist producers.God only hopes that YS don't do this other vise we'll all be flocking there like sheep... Powerful motors, good for 50 flights then it's a full strip down service, routine. Baah Baah.....
|
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
Great! Now all we need is for Futaba to introduce a flagship ESC with integrated battery data telemetry.
|
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
LONG LIVE TO 4 STROKE!!!!!!!!!!!
|
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
Yeah, but the "big" one is only an 8S motor. I wonder if OS should have released an F3A motor ESC combination to certain F3A pilots first, then to the general population in F3A and 110 sizes, then a few other sizes for the rest of the unwashed masses......
A sensored/sensorless hybrid motor and ESC combo would be a good place to start and offer some real product differentiation for the marketing department to work with.... |
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
I think we over estimate the impact that the pattern community has on direct sales of ANYthing. We are tremendous influencers (is that a word?) in that many look to us to help validate their choice of equipment. But as far as over sales are concerned, we're less than 1% of the market. Starting with sport motors is where the money is. Same with radio equipment.
At Rick - Yes, I'll be in Muncie. Apparently a LOT this summer. Also, if all 4 of you have gone E, and I just heard that most of Chicago has also converted this winter, I have to apologize to Frak...looks like we may indeed be mostly E powered at this point. First contest is next weekend in D4 so I'll take some quick stats and post the numbers. |

RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
I just can't seem to accept that several old school manufactures have all ran off and developed their OWN motors. Let's just hope they haven't found some industrial motor producer... then just gone around sticking their logo on. As hard as I try to think differently... I've got this feeling this is exactly what's going on. <br type="_moz" /> |
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
one thing puzzles me and maybe somebody who reads japanese can help me. I see the bigger option as the OMA 5025-375. I assume it is the FAI 2M x 2M option since it has 8 mm shaft (same as plett) and it has a very similar support holes arrangement.<div>
</div><div>nevertheless it looks like it is only 405 g (it is the only measurment in grams that appears there)</div><div> </div><div>if this is a 2M x 2M engine for a 5000 g pattern plane with somewhat 3000 W or so watts, It will for sure hit Plett and Hacker directly in the main tower: WEIGHT.</div><div> </div><div>any Japanese reader who can help?</div><div> </div><div>Marcelo</div> |
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
I just Checked the datasheet. the power of the bigger one is only 1550 for 60 A draw at 29 V or so...<div>
</div><div>Very far away from 2M x 2M 5000 g requirement.</div><div> </div><div>still no OS motor for pattern...</div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Marcelo</div> |
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
Ya know, I made a recommendation to GP to do this very thing way back when they brought out their Ammo line of motors. it makes all the sense in the world. Since that time we got ST motors and now O.S. Hopefully the O.S. line of electric motors will be worthy of the name.

RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
Small ST branded electric motors and ESCs are about 3-4 years old now.

In my club, we have 3 pattern pilots and we all have different primary powerplants: 1 electric, 1 glow and 1 petrol, but the two of us with wet power are looking at electric too. One of the two has actually made a purchase of a 2x2m electric set-up. I've been seeing some very interesting stats on latest gen batteries in lab development too. All very neat stuff. |
RE: Well, It Had To Happen-
It was only a matter of time.
I am surprised at the basic collet prop adapter OS is using. I would have expected a prop mount that bolts on like the axi etc. |
