Same engine or change
 

I just picked up a used Epsilon 90. the previous owner flew it with a Saito 125. Question should I stay with that since it was setup for it or switch to a YS110? It was an airframe only purchase so have flexiblity.

Do you already have an engine or do you need to go buy one? Either will server you well but the YS will allow you to put the tank on the CG.

For simplicity, a simple two stroke OS 120 AX should do the job. However, if you're proficient with four strokes especially the YS system, I'll go with the 110 or the replacement 115.

There is still a lot of us here flying YS, & we can provide you with suggestion should you run into trouble.

I tried messing with a YS early on in my rc/pattern career. Great power until I started having problems, spent a lot of down time trying to solve, or waiting for engine to return from YS parts and service.

They are awesome engines if you have the time to learn and understand them. I learned the hard way that I'd rather have a reliable motor and spend my time concentrating on flying, not tuning.

OS 120AX is an awesome engine, Saito should be fine too. Personally I might try a pumped OS 4-stroke, but expensive and again asking for things to go wrong.

As you can see, I switched to electric power (still experimenting though)

I don't have an engine as I'm working on getting back into things. I have had YS's before and understand them pretty well. I think this just might come down to cost and what the wallet fits the best.

You could use the Saito and a Perry Oscillating pump and put the fuel tank on CG, which is highly desired for a precision aerobatic model. No constant trimming the elevator, and mass in the center of the model.

In the past, I did this with an OS 120 4-stroke and it worked quite well.

Mike, it depends how much time you want to put into getting the YS put in, and getting it set up right. Do that, use the right fuel, and I would say go with the YS. If you just want to get out there flying, the Saito will be quicker and a little more user friendly, but I've seen them have plenty of issue's also.

There should be plenty of folks here who could hook you up with a good motor at a good price I would guess.

If you are comfortable with a YS, go for it. Nothing beats a YS for glow power. Having said that, I recently switched to electric and am not looking back. If anyone needs a YS 170 CDI tuned by Mr Yamada himself with less than 3 gallone run thru it for a cheap price, shoot me a pm.

Actually, I'm building a pattern triplane with a Jet Cat turbine ...
