I just got the plans for a Mike McConnville 'Desire' (the .60 2-stroke version) with the intention of using my fz91 in it. Does anybody have any experience with this design, or any suggestions?

Great flying airplane. It's been about 10 (maybe more) years since my last one. I flew mine with 2-stroke engines which are a bit lighter than the 4-stroke; so plan accordingly (maybe move the engine back). I'd probably go with fuselage mounted, fixed landing gear, too - reinforce the fuselage appropriately.
I still have a set of wing/stab/fin&rudder cores as well as the fiberglass top section and cowl for the fuselage. Email me directly if your interested.

GREAT flying plane... one of the few low-wing planes of the 90's. I would try to keep within Mike McConville's original design premise and preserve the straight-line fuse belly from the cowl to the rudder. Just like he says, it truly does make the plane look like it grooves. Fixed gear and wheels hanging down would detract from this.

It looks like you and I agree on yet another airplane!! I've always liked the Desire and have both a set of plans as well as two sets of wing & stab cores for this airplane.

My intention was to build this plane with the YS 91AC; however I never did fulfill this desire, ha!! My big hang up was the canopy, I was trying to figure out how to build the entire fuselage from wood yet find a clear canopy to use and still retain the shape and majestic lines of this airplane.

I went so far as to plot the entire fuselage side and top view into AutoCAD. I found a canopy that matched the side view shape but never did get a chance to check for width.
