Wheels on 2M Pattern Plane
What brand and size of wheel are you putting on your 2M pattern planes. And if you are using Bolly Wheel pants, same question. I have to order everything by catalog and having trouble finding a good wheel. The ones I have available are either to small in diameter or to fat in width to go in the Bolly wheel pants.

Dave Brown 2 3/4" Lite Flites. They fit in the Bolly pant opening. Just barely, but good enough. I tried 3" DB LiteFlites. They had a wider hub i believe, Could not make them work.
The Mks from Central Hobbies will work, but dang pricey. I use a 3" 6/32 bolt, washer, locknut combo for the axle and pant retention. Have to cut some of the length from the bolt. I have about 100 flights on the 6/32 bolt axle, no failure yet. |

I'm not sure if they'll fit in the wheelpants you mention, but the "LYT" series from hobby lobby are good foamies. they don't deform easily like the dave browns, and they're generally half the weight, or less, for equivalent sizes. Price is irrelevant also, they're pretty cheap. I use the LYT60 in my E3D and Sport-e-stick kits. They're just under 6 grams per wheel whereas the dave browns in that same size are 19 grams ea. I know, it doesn't sound like much, but 14g per wheel more means an ounce more total weight, which is something to consider.

Wheels
I have the Hobby Lobby Wheels on two 1/4 scale planes and they work great. They get chewed up fairly quickly on asphalt runways, but they are less than $10 a set and I have not found anything lighter.

I've noticed some pretty bad deformation with foam wheels on my ships...
It hasn't stopped me using them (I can't stand the extra weight of du-bro style wheels) I just make sure that the planes aren't resting on their wheels when in storage. juts my 0.02c |

Dave Browns here.
Yep they deform if you leave the aeroplane standing on 'em for a while but they're cheap and light. A great combination. |
Wheels on 2M Pattern Plane
MK wheel light and they don't deform with time...also not very expensive.

Dansy, whose MK wheels are you talking about. A pair of wheels from Central Hobbies cost something like $18.00 a pair!!!!!! You must be talking about something else.

Gator sells the MK wheels and Central sells the Tettra.
I bought some of the Tettra's from Central the size was:55mm, along with a set of spare tires. One wheel was $15.69!!! and one tire was $4.89!!!! I will read the fine print from now on!!! |

The MK wheels really are ONE of the best examples of "ya get whatcha pay fer"....they last a very long time, have very good bushings that don't wear rapidly, and have a very good fit, so there is less airborne noise from wheels rattling.
If you fly a fixed gear plane with pants on (not yours :) ), have someone hold it a few feet off the pavement, and slowly run the throttle up and down. If the wheels aren't pretty snug on the axles, betcha a gallon of nitro there will be a resonance point (probably near 1/3 to 1/2 throttle) where you'll SWEAR something is fixin' to come off the plane. Shut it down, jam some fuel tubing against the wheel and pant, and do the same test. Let me know what you discover....then, go order really good wheels without much axle slop... :D |

I buy those in Japan usually.....pretty cheap and they do last....when I say last is that they last with out deformation like the DB light wheel...and they are light

Dave brown are the way to go if your taking off grass, the mks are great for tarmac but may be too small for the bolly spats.

I know exactly what you're talking bout Aerobob...
I ended up fitting brass bushings to all my wheels and a pair of felty leather washers to them... SILENCIO! (for the David Lynch fans) |
Anyone have any links to wheels 60 mm diameter, for pattern airplane, that is 2M?

Try Central Hobbys. Otherwise, RC Japan.
