RE: BJ Craft Monolog 110 for 2012

Thx for your feedback, I'm planning to go 8S electric, so shouldn't be annoyed by the adaptation you had to make.
I agree for the look of the gear, sad they didn't add a carbon one, even for 50$ the price will have been very attractive ....
Dunno if F3A Unlimited have a carbon one in stock fitting this machine ?....

RE: BJ Craft Monolog 110 for 2012

What about the gear from the Leo 110 ?

Or maybe one of those ones ?
http://www.cfpart.com/products/CF%20...-03-30/56.html

If someone could be cool enough to measure the wire gear as mentionned on the link above, we might be able to answer the question of the carbon gear and make recommendations for everybody, it will be nice as it is difficult to have information from anybody else than owners ... sadly ....

thx

RE: BJ Craft Monolog 110 for 2012

Anyone done one of these or heard about anyone doing one with a 20cc gasser?  Seems like the all up weight is a wash, particularly if single-battery for both ignition and Rx.  Anyone??  (Noise or non-competition-worthiness not factors in this question)

Thank you! That is exactly the kind of info I was hoping to see someplace. Looks like all the wood for the gasser mount is included....and I have some experience at custom-making exhaust systems/canisters....may have to play with it a bit....although the stock muffler as it appears is not unsuitable for my low-standard of appearance and MacGyver-ism... :)

OK, with a little searching and ingenuity I have solved the carbon Fiber gear issue on the Monolog 110. Ordered a set of gear from Graphtechrcshop.com item # 280 a quick trip over to my friend Raiko with raikodzigns.com and presto we have carbon gear! See photos below. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1906752http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1906753http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1906754http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1906755http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1906756http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1906757http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1906758http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1906759http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1906760http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1906761

Some people will take a small piece of carbon and bridge it across the two gear halves - use the two innermost bolts, one from each gear leg - to spread the load during hard landings.

I like Graphtech gear. I wonder if that set will fit my Venus.

Nice work by the way, looks good.

mhare - that is a beauty - good looking gear! Very clean glow install, too!
____

I've just completed mine. DLE 20 with standard muffler, standard wire gear with standard pants. Haven't had a chance to maiden yet, but ground runs seem to tell me there will be plenty of punch for this setup. I just had to try making it a gassie, even though it may be a tad heavy this way. Will report back when it's had some airtime; should be soon.

BTW - this new version of RCU is absolutely the pits, and sucks more than I ever imagined it would have.

Hi Bob.
How are you?
So we meet again on the Monolog 110!
I have gone back to Pattern, all e-powered, so am going with a Hacker A60-5s-V2 on an 8 cell set up, with a CC esc.
Will probably use the above cf u/c that mhare2000 has come up with.
Totally agree with your comments on the new version of RCU. Sucks big time!
Looking forward to your comments on the Monolog.
All the best.

Recently lost my Focus 2. Would be interested to read what people think about the Monolog 110. I kinda feel that the 2M planes have a real advantage but the price on this plane is hard to resist. Just moved into Intermediate.

mhare2000 08-17-2013 06:26 PM

Uncas, Mine with a YS115 has unlimited vertical, locks very well on both downlines and exits. Snap is the best of any model I have flown with nice break but beautifully slow rotation and solid lock with good line out. Spins with Rudder Elevator and slight Aileron. Downside is it has a lot of side area and does weather vain. Setup is pretty much on with the downloadable setup guide for throws and expo. I have adjusted to my taste with slight decrease in elevator throw and lots of expo in Rudder. CG is slightly behind recommend starting point. Hope this helps.

What batteries are you guys using? 2 x 4s or just one 8s? I'm planning on using a castle HV80 with a hacker A50. Anybody have photos of the inside with batteries?

Robert

hannah76 08-20-2013 05:51 PM

Just started assembling one of these myself.... would be interested in internal pics as well with electric setups. I'm planning on what was recommended to me by F3A unlimited = Hacker A50 16L V3 and castle ice 100... Is this what others would recommend for this plane?

mhare2000, thanks for posting the gear mod...gonna do that one as well. Not a big fan of the wire for this size plane.

Brian

HEY!! Rodney - thought I'd never hear from you outside of a gasser-aerobatic thread.... :) ....Good to see you here.
I have mine STILL ready-to-maiden, and STILL having other things in the way...but soon.
I really am thinking this will be one sweet flying bird....guessing the DLE 20 will do at least as good as a YS 115 ( David Hare - can you confirm/speculate?)

I will post here when it has left the hangar. Better be soon....

kingconsulting 08-23-2013 08:16 AM

Ok just ordered one of these. What servos are you guys using? Futaba recommendations? Or?

Going with the Hacker A50-16L, Castle 80hv and 8s.

mups53 08-24-2013 06:36 AM

Not sure about the Futaba selections.
9411 ailerons and 8231 elevator and rudder are good JR selections.
The A50 16L is an excellent selection for power

Lazer 08-24-2013 05:21 PM

Hello again Mike,
I forgot to ask what size of 8s packs are being used to get about 8 to 9 minuets of flight time.

If anyone else is using the Hacker A50-16L setup what are you using?

Bob,
If you use a gas engine, will you also use a soft mount and a nose ring?

Nope. Been ground-running, vibes aren't too bad. Design of tying the plywood crutch with the nose ring and side plates makes it pretty solid. Hoping it will hold up. Still no flights on it, been distracted playing with the Monolog 70 trying to get my motor/battery setups sorted out on it.

sorry chaps a bit late but here is a pic of the composite upgrade http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1918385

Bob Pastorello 09-09-2013 11:36 AM

If that is BJ's "Composite", it is very flexible fiberglass which flexes far too much, if it's the same as what he did on the ML 70, which is really bad/poor, flexing FAR too much. I have ordered a CF gear from a Chinese supplier on eBay - *if* it is workable, I'll provide all the info here after installed and tested. The fiberglas stuff on the ML 70 is really just terrible.

Bob Pastorello 09-11-2013 01:49 PM

FINALLY today was "maiden" day. The DLE 20 performed flawlessly, the ML 110 (balanced per spec) flew extremely well, and the mileage / duration of a 10 oz tank with this setup is simply heavenly. SO much better than being bound to 8 minute batteries. Lucky I was alone - if others were there, I'd have heard all about being an air hog.

ANYWAY - it is a really VERY good setup, wire gear is just great, knife edge is unreal, and it is capable of ANYTHING I want it to do. The HobbyKing coreless, high-torque, high speed dbl ball bearing servos are also really doing a fine job job of centering and holding...very precise. I'm still smilin'.

rodney tanner 09-11-2013 03:01 PM

Hi Bob.
Sounds like you are a happy camper there.
What´s the part number on those HK servos?
Roughly to which JR would they be equivalent?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
