Hey Matt i have sent a PM to Don but has not got back to me yet. Would you know if he sells short kits, fuse templates or what not. Going to cut the cores myself i have all the adjusters and tubes but would like to buy the rest from him. I would buy the cores and all from him but the shipping to Canada would kill me, i have all the equipment to do it so why not.
Regards. Phil |
Phil,
I dont know know what he has or doesn't. My info is what I read in the classic forum. I suggest you visit there and answer one of his posts. His handle is frequent flier |
I believe Don is selling a glass and foam copy of the Black Magic. I'm sure he would sell you whatever parts you need. The original wood/foam version did not come with full sized plans, just detailed instructions and some full sized templates (like the firewall). Mike Hester sold the kit production rights to another vendor who has disappeared. Mike has dropped out of R/C. Hopefully Don will be able to produce a wood version. The person doing the laser-cut wood parts for Don is a guy named Pat Fallacaro at Laser Cut USA (lasercutusa.com). You might want to contact him. too.

Thanks Willy, sent Pat an Email too in this regard. Waiting to hear from both of them. Phil
|
Phil, please post any info you learn about black magic kit prices and availability.
Thanks, maustin |
The Black Magic VF3 available from RCAIIR includes all foam pieces, fiberglass fuselage, wood formers for $650. It does not include wing/stab tubes and adjusters and the balsa sheeting. Don can provide the sheeting for an additional charge. No word yet on the availability of the wood/foam version (or price).

Thanks, price is about what the original V3 all wood kit costs so not bad!
|
That's great, thanks Will. I get more responses from you than any of them. Guess us guys north of the border don't count. STILL WAITING !!
Maybe i should go and build my other Twister. |
Hey rabbid fly,
you guys count! I will try emailing Pat. No Canadian teams in the playoffs this year????? No Bruins either :(. I grew up outside of Boston and played hockey for more than 40 years. My favorite sport... unless another Boston team is winning a championship. |
Oh what a great day at the field today, got 10 flights on my super curare, loved every minutes of it. Phil

Pat Lasercut uSA |
Hey Pat sorry I did not get your Email as mine is on the fritz at the moment, i am interested on building a wood fuse with the glass cowl and canopy that would be purchased from Don. I would also have to cut my own cores I have all the equipment to do it so that part is not a problem.
I would also require the root and tip as well as the parameters for the flying surfaces. Do you sell a short kit for the fuse?? a set of plans?? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You. Phil |

Phil I do believe I have some plan information on the plane. It is on a different computer that I wont access until the weekend. Pm me your email address. If you were closer I could make you a good deal on one.

Here are the plans for the airplane that I have. There not full size but someone may now how to scale them up. Scroll down the PDF in Adobe page and they are on the bottom if that makes sense.
|
Hey Joe thank you for sharing this information with us. It is a good start. Phil
|
No problem, Hope they will help you out
Joe |
Joe, are the top and bottom former prints available? I really like the looks of this plane.
I'm doing some scaling right now on some InSite plans to build a 90 size ship. Staples can scale plans also. You just need to know the percentage of change you need. You can also import the PDF into a CAD program and scale it there. Maybe I can help? Thanks! Ken |
There are no top and bottom formers. They are cut with foam and sheeted with 1/16 balsa. You just need to be a little creative in drawing them using the width of the formers and the height on the drawings and use the ellipse command.

I think I have everything I need to start on a Black Magic scratch build, I just need to print some plans. At this point "I think" the only piece of information I'm missing is the amount of dihedral in the wing. Does anybody have this figure?
Thanks! Ken |

Don at Rcaiir might help with that. I think he's putting together the cad files for an all wood version of the plane. I seem to remember reading that in the classic forum.

Ken, I saw that too. Don't know what the truth really is regarding don Carlson and Rcaiir. I have not done any business with him. Some folks say good things in the classic forum and now, in the RCG forum, folks are saying bad things.
I've had a couple emails with Pat, the guy who is supposedly doing the laser cutting for Rcaiir, but that has not amounted to anything. I am looking for someone to do laser cutting of wing and stabs kits. But I also need someone to be responsive to communications and give decent service at a reasonable price. I don't think that's too much to ask. |
Hi Guys,
I've dealt with Don. I sent him a glass Brushfire fuselage and plans so he could kit them which he is now doing. I bought a new Brushfire kit plus a Miss Beetle kit and my original Brushfire was returned to me in the same condition as it was sent to him. The new kits are very nice quality. The only negative was that the time frame was longer than expected from when I sent him my Brushfire until everything was delivered to me. His recent relocation and new shop set-up had to significantly interfere with delivery 'schedules' if he has been taking orders during this process. Considering the investment he's made in making plugs from many classic pattern designs, I believe he plans to be in business for a while once his new shop is set up. My 2 cents... |
