Allure Build for YS185 Cdi

1 Attachment(s)
Hi Everyone..

After our last build of the Electric Allure builders kit with my Father Ewan, we decided to give YS ago again after 14 years .. My plan is to compare two identical Allure's, One I'm currently flying with a V3 Brenner Contra which I love

"great motor airframe combination" and an Allure set up with a YS DZ185 Cdi..

We will do our best with guidance from Bryan Hebert to show a reliable YS setup for others to follow, if anyone else gets keen to give YS a try.

The new model started life as a builders kit chin cowl electric version I picked for a good price, So have added extra carbon and Kevlar cloth to the fuselage to give it the extra strength needed to handle the YS.

Ewan has already built the wings and stabs for this model but will back date the construction of the model first up to where it is now..

The wings and stabs are made from foam balsa with the same construction as our electric build but using more carbon in the spar and slightly stronger wood for the sheeting..

Let the build begin

Best regards Hamish Galloway

I fly the Galactik with YS 185 CDI...

I can do all my Pattern with power just above idle awesome engine....,

A lot of people will miss the power from the 185 in the next WC in Argentina, the winds in the area where it will be held have really strong winds.....

It will be interesting.

Anyone tried the ys zero? Wondered how it compared.

Heres the engine mount plates that come with the kit.. They are made of good 3mm plywood with what looks like 200 gram carbon cloth that has been vac bagged to each side.
With the 2 glued together I reckon they are more than strong enough to handle the YS on a bad day , so decided to lighten the bottom plate.. It saved 24grams weight savings and still feels plenty strong..

I I glued the two plates together with 24hr Araldite glue which has a very strong bond ..

Gday Hamish,

If you are worried about weight have a look at the new APC carbon props and spinners with cooling slots,

I use them on my set up and I save lots... around 70 grams

Thanks MAVROS , I think this Allure will end up about 4700grams. I always try to save weight where I can :-).
ive already got a light spinner and the carbon APC prop to save some weight up front because of the light stabs and may have to put the rudder servo in the tail to get it to balance. I'll know more as I get closer to the end..

Best regards Hamish

4700 Grms is a very good weight for the size of the ALLURE airframe...

Fire wall bulkhead..

Because we work with composite materials I decided to make a lighter one.. The one supplied with the kit would work well which was made of 3 mm ply with 200gram Carbon cloth..

My new one is made from rowacell 51 and light ply.. I will vac bagged it down with a 200 gram laminate. I added the hard point to spread the stress that the YS will give to the mount.

The he new bulkhead came up really nice and saved another 23 grams..

The trial fit fitted well with minor sanding needed ;-)

Hello Hamish

Thanks for the pictures.
Friend of mine Franck Elligsen received his Allure and is going to install Yamada 175 CDI or 185 CDI (first picture)
I would like to test 3 blades propeller as shown on last picture.
Do you know diameter / pitch and where is it sold ?

Papaone, that picture was taken at the Cajun Nationals, and that is a picture of the Allure biplane. The designer Bryan Hebert has been testing his own handmade 3 blade props on the Allure and the Allure Biplane for awhile now. He is getting close to finishing his testing and has been working on lining up a manufacturer to produce them. They are not available yet, but hopefully will be in the near future.
