RE: PL Prod pattern babes

Personally, I'm very disappointed that our hobby has resorted to this type of advertising. Women next to airplanes does absolutely nothing to entise me to purchase a product. In fact, it does the exact opposite. If a company needs a bikini babe squatting over their product to sell it, in my mind they have short comings they are trying to shade over with the use of the model. If the product doesn't have any short comings, then why block the view of the product with a model draped over it? This type of advertising may be successful in beer commercials or hot rod magazines, but it really has no place in the "gentlemans" hobby of R/C aircraft. Shame on PL Prod and all other R/C companies who employ this practice.

just my .02,

John

PS, Yes, I do like women. No, I'm not blind, and no I'm not prude nor 110 years old. I just feel that there is a time and place for everything. This is not the time or place for this type of advertising.

Not sure which looks better. The planes or the women!

Hey it's different that's for sure. Astro, I wonder what kind of models they would use with SPA vintage planes?
John sorry if the site offended you I didn't think that someone would react that way but it's your opinion and I respect that. I have to admit that I enjoyed the pics and wanted to share them. Mike

John, I guess we have a different standard in the states. Even RCM does't put chicks on the cover anymore. I think we are more family oriented in our hobby then the french. K factor even puts children on there covers.

These are some ladies, but I would not actually call them "ladies" in the classic sense of the word.
The short is, that in these pictures they are wearing considerable more clothing than they do at work. That's PLs other business!!! I guess it has its perks.

One of the guys at PL is in the adult film industry. The model that caused the most attention on the PL site, Clara Morgane is one of their 'actresses'.

Mike,
I wouldn't say I was offended. I'm just disappointed that our hobby has gone this direction. I simply cannot see where a scantily clad model will do anything for the sale of an R/C model other than allow the reader to get a couple of cheap thrills looking at the ads. If someone wants cheap thrills, the internet is chock full of opertunities without bringing it into what has up till recently a family friendly hobby.

John I think that it goes beyond them trying to sell more planes. PLProd doesn't need to promote sales they can't fill all the requests they have now. I think that it's more them having some fun. Yes this is supposed to be family oriented but I don't feel that this is that bad. Have you watched TV lately? The magazines in the old days always had a girl in a bikini in front of a plane. Again I started the thread because I thought it was funny. I'm not really making a statement I just thought it was ok to share this discovery with everyone. You have to admit this isn't your ordinary everyday pattern website. For the record I don't fly PLProd planes but if I could afford one I would in a heartbeat. They have fantastic looking and flying stuff. Mike

What would you consider to be bad? Having the porn star who's straddling the model to be completely nude or with another person?

No, as a matter of fact, I do not watch T.V. any longer. But, the difference there is you have an idea of what to expect. You're not caught off gaurd with a flash of skin because you know to expect it. Also, the magazine's of the old days have changed their ways. It's only the newest R/C model mags who continue this practice. Again, there is a time and a place for everything. This is neither. If PLProd cannot keep up with demand, maybe they should put more effort into shipping product instead of photo shoots.

Hey Mike,
I'm 46. Been flying R/C since the late '60s. I've seen a lot of great looking models over the years (both kinds). Back in the mid '80s when I was a fanantical skiier (snow) I met some penthouse pets (they were part of some promotion). Since it was cold they had a lot of clothes on. Nice to talk to, but not stunningly beautiful or even close. I guess there's a lot more magic in photography!
I will admit, if PLprod accidently sent me the wrong 'model' I'd keep 'it' - my wife never goes in my workshop :-)

I think it's fine, but for crying out loud, if it offends you, don't freakin' look, it's a website, YOU HAVE THE POWER!

PL prod don't need to "sink" to these lows to sell their aircraft, they're fine machines.

Who you kidding John? You say you didn't know what to expect? The title of the thread is PLProd pattern babes. What do you expect that to be? For the record I won't be debating you about this anymore cause it's pointless. Lighten up Frances. Mike

It has been well known for several years since the 99's worlds in Florida what the real business of PL Prod entails. Personally I could care less they make very fine flying models that are extremely high quality and are on the cutting edge of technology and performance. There is not a plane made in the US that even compares to the quality, and flight characteristics of the Smaragd. I know I've flown em' The whole range of models....

The really sad thing is I think there is much more money to be made in their other ventures than in the modeling one.

Still looking and striving for a US designed model that can compete with the flying qualities of the French stuff.

Relax guys besides they have clothing on and the kids (Kris, Brett, AC and the others are enjoying the view) I've seen worse in the SI Swimsuit edition and this is a very popular magazine with the teenagers....I know it was for me!

Europe has a little different moral code about this stuff than we do....remember we started out as the pilgrims with those hats and shoes....there was a reason they sent us over here.....Those hats and shoes! LOL

Smile its life

Thanks Troy you have a way of putting things that make sense. Do you ever see the distribution for PLProd and possibly ZNLine planes getting better here in the US? As good as their planes may be there to hard to get. And I agree that they are the best.
Thanks, Mike

I never said I didn't know what was at the link above for the very reason you state, the thread title. I'm saying that someone browsing R/C manuf web sites that are supposedly family friendly shouldn't have to be surprised like this.

Lighten up? There is no reason for me to. This is a forum for people to express their opinions and I'm entitled to mine as much as you are to yours.

I personally was not aware of this. If this is their primary business, maybe they should keep the two a little more seperate.
