I was able to photo the 2nd rudder vs the new balsa/foam version.
Eric. ORIGINAL: Eric.Henderson I made two rudders. One is 1/2 shorter on the top,. That is the one I am flying right now. The Number 2 Impact rudder will be 3//4"shorter when I finish carving it. I do that last so that it mates correctly with the fin before I cover it. All material that is removed is from the top counter balance area. I'm sorry but its not pratical to take the photos that you want because the c-board horns get completely in the bloody way. Nite! Eric. (EST) |
RE: Impact
Hi,
I am trying to re-set the wing incidence on my e-impact (hacker C50-14XL + APC22x11. + TP10S3P6000 + Master77 Opto ) Am I correct to set the stabs at zero, and the wings at 0.25 degree positive? Thanks in advance for the reply. |
RE: Impact
Hi DV,
Stab 0 Deg, Wing +0.25 deg, Downthrust 0 Deg, Engine side thrust 3.5 Deg ( YS 140lm - APC 15x12 - Wildcat 3DLV 30% Nitro, Hattori #693 Pipe, that's my setup and it works just fine! Not sure what right thrust you will need for the Hacker though. Hope this helps, Andy. PS, Radio is all JR (is there anything else worth considering) [sm=lol.gif][8D] |

Hi Guy's,
Thought I'd share these with you. After an engine cut (my fault entirely, forgot to adjust throttle trim in ST1) I have had to fit some new gear to the Impact. I've gone for the Bolly F3a Wide with matching spats. I got them through Elation Models here in the UK (check www.elationmodels.co.uk). I had to trim the fixing plate a little in width on each half but other than that they went together quite well. They do provide a wider track than the carf u/c and the legs are solid carbon strand instead of carbon cloth over foam. Regards, Andy. |

RE: Impact
The Bolly gear are a good choice -- I used them last year to replace what came with another ship without using the originals -- recommended by others. When I saw what was included with the Impact -- they were identical so I got the Bolly right away. They did take some trimming but not enough to harm. Good choice. Now if I can just get it done...

RE: Impact
I recall seeing a reference to a new digital incidence meter that will also measure deflection angle. I thought I saw it here and that it was from Hangar 9. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

RE: Impact
I found it.

RE: Impact
Has anyone had any concerns about rough edges of composite materials cutting servo wires? Specifically where the aileron servo leads loop through the rib on their way back to the root?
Thanks, Tom |
RE: Impact
Tom, I have a carbon sheeted nomex honecomb tray in my Mantis. I mounted the RX on the tray with a velcro strap, and ran the elevator and rudder wires through a 1/2" dia hole in the tray b/c the servo tops were on the same side as the RX. A few weeks after test flying I was getting glitches on my elevator during corners. I thought interference or turbulence, but it was too persistant. Checked the elevator and rudder servo wires, and they both had their insulation cut through by the tray. Put a slice of silicone header tube in the tray hole, and it solved that problem.

RE: Impact
Thanks for the tip! That sounds like the perfect solution -- now if I can just get it halfway down the wing without using a can opener to get access...
This should do it -- the servos are in -- if I can get them in without crawling inside I should be able get a piece of silicone tube in the hole! Tom |
RE: Impact
You could also consider applying shink wrap to the section of the servo leads that pass through the composite hole.

I use fuel tubing split down with a scalpel, here's a picture of the servo & receiver tray in my Impact. The tray is made from carbon sheet that's 1.5mm thick so I decided to protect the servo cables where they pass through to plug in to the receiver.

RE: Impact
These are all good ideas that I will use in different spots around the interior. Thanks for the suggestions!
Anybody elses tail fall off? How do you like the way they fly? Thanks, Tom |
RE: Impact
Tom,
You won't be dissapointed with this aero, it's like it's on rails! Just make sure you carry out the mod's required that have been covered in extreme detail here on this forum and you'll be ok [sm=cool.gif]. Regards, Andy. |

Well guy's we finally had the weather with us this wekend and I managed to really start to get to grips with the throws on the Impact. We hosted a training day here at the LeicesterMAC on Saturday and man was it hot!
Have posted a couple of pic's courtesy of a fellow club member, enjoy. Regards, Andy. |

RE: Impact
Hey Derek, now you posted the picture of my plane, when can I expect my royalty check?

RE: Impact
If it is an Impact, why did he write Illusion down the side of it?
/confused |

ORIGINAL: Adamg-RCU If it is an Impact, why did he write Illusion down the side of it? /confused Why would anyone call a plane Impact? [8D] Especially with the "history" that this plane has... |

ORIGINAL: riot3d Hey Derek, now you posted the picture of my plane, when can I expect my royalty check? You signed the release... remember? Besides, you should be paying me for posting the picture... in the meantime... take some pics of the inside and post them on RCU - showing the crutch, the new rudder, etc. |

Due to some teasing from Composite about my red rudder, here is Impact #2 with a new color on the rudder. Sort of a before and after :-)

Used 1/16" balsa for the pipe tunnel and rear fuselage ladder. Double bolted the wing and came in 5 oz below the limit.
Testing tomorrow with a bit of luck :-) Eric. |
RE: Impact
Hi Eric,
Great pic's! Have you angled the rudder post back on the #2 Impact? it looks as though it's leaning back slightly. I would imagine that the angle would give a little down elevator effect whilst introducing rudder movement, is this an effect your trying to build in to the model? Regards, Andy. |
RE: Impact
It is, and they are all, exactly the same. The red-rudder just happens to be turned a bit towards us.
There is absolutely no need to change the hinge angles. I just made the top a bit shorter to reduce the power of the counter balance. (I actually cut the counter balance completely off my Temptations.) What you cannot really see is the double bevel. that made it easier to retro-fit. Also on number 2 I slipped a 1/8" fin rib in place. It runs a t about 45 degrees up from the TE of the stab. Now you can't compres the fin at all. I intend to fly number 2 tomorrow - it got too finger-bone-chilling cold and windy over that last few days. I will fly both of them as hard as is "fair to the plane" and see if all of the upgrades succeed in keeping them together. I may even do some reverse avalanches with 1.5 snaps !!!! I can fly number one left-handed around the field on KE rudder @ 1/4 throttle. I hope number 2 is as good? Regards, Eric |
