Prop for the .72

Hi guys,

I´m looking for for a prop to use with my upcoming saito 72. I have a Bolly clubman 12.5x8 here. I´ll be using a 15% nitro fuel. It will be powering a Widebody 40.
Is this a good prop to start from? Any suggestions?

Dr. Waldimir,...

I am running three Saito 72's. Two of them are using an APC 13 X 6. While the third has an APC 14 X 5 Narrow!!

The 14 X 5 Narrow provides excellent down-line breaking and almost instantaneous ecceleration when throttle is applied. I really like this prop!! The only reason I'm not using the 14 X 5 Narrow on my other two Saito 72's is because I don't have the ground clearance for it.

My suggestion would be to start off with the 13 X 6 and if you have ample ground clearance give the 14 X 5 Narrow a try!!

Hope that helps.

RE: Prop for the .72

Hello there. I just finished my Widebody 40 with a Saito.72. I had the engine on a GP Ultimate and a FunFly before, I used an APC 13x6 on those planes. The engine has a lot of thrust and very good braking with that prop.
I'm using an APC 12x8 on the Widebody, the plane is a little faster, brakes less on the down line but it seems a lot smoother and cleaner in flight. It still pulls it out of sight.

I would suggest the 12x8 for pattern-style. I didn't try the 13x6 but I guess from the experience with my fun-fly that it would be great for freestyle/3D. The 14x5 suggested above would be even better for slow flight, and expect a much more responsive throttle!

It is a very nice plane, I will try it next weekend with a LOT less control throw than suggested.

Good luck!

What are the nitro % that you guys are using?
How about the rpm w/ 13x6 & 14x5N ?
For my taste, I would go with 13x6 or 14x5N if the ground clearance is good.
I like to fly slow, but with enough pulling for vertical & slower downline.
I think it is personal preference.

I use 15% Nitro. The APC13X6 @ 9900RPM, the APC12x8 @ 9700RPM (those are 300 RPM rich from peak).

Saludos,
