Getting back to pattern
 

Hey Guys, After getting away from pattern to do helis, and some scale stuff I'm looking to get back. In the late 80's early 90's I flew a CURARE 60 and I miss how smooth it flew. Being that I also would like try learning 3D, the U-CAN-DO .60 caught my eye. I am on a tight budget and I have a 3 year old (never run) Super Tiger .90 and a used but very good OS 1.08 sitting in the shop. I've seen some really nice planes such as the Widebody 60, Focus II, and other but my budget isn't to that point yet. Would the UCD 60 be a good intermediate pattern plane or are there other ARFs in that price range.

The answer to your question about UDC 60 is only one … Absolutely NOOOO!!!. The problem of the UCD for Pattern is … everything!!! ;)

I have one with an OS 91 FX that I buy to learn 3D. It is really a good trainer for 3D, but it was not designed for Pattern Flying. I have a good number of hours flying Pattern Planes and I really enjoy my UCD, but it never will do nothing more than 3D. [8D]

If you want to try Pattern again, look for the WB 60 or the Epsilon from CAModel. :D

I acquired a OS 108 for my Explorer/excelleron but chose to get a YS110 instead. I don't know enough about the St90 to comment but if that's a 2-stroke and lighter than the 108 it'd probably be a good choice.

Thanks for the info guys. I didn't realize that GSP swallow was as low priced as it was. I most likely will move in that direction.

Swallow is real nice, I like the way the fin is blended with the fuz :D

Take a look at the Viper 91 by Dennis Hunt at Zimpro.. All hand built here in the USA...straight and light with many option able... to get to his site search "Viper pattern plane" and here are some pics of the 91.
