ES Composites CF landing gear
I have a Fantasy plane that has the original aluminum gear on it. I am thinking of installing the ES Composites CF landing gear on it. The ES gear is some 1+ oz lighter and does not have the sweep back making it easier to retrofit on the Fantasy. If I convert it to electric, ES has the gear "B" whick is taller allowing me to clear a 22" prop. My other Eclipse has Bolly gear on it.
I need some feedback on the durability of ES CF gear. Thanks, Steve |
RE: ES Composites CF landing gear
Hi Steve -
I replaced the aluminum gear on my Eclipse with the ES carbon ones about 75 flights ago. I have seen no signs of wear or fatigue (I normally fly off of grass) The weight savings was about 3oz total. The size and shape of the ES are almost the same as the stock aluminum, and retrofitting was straight forward. (after you saw it in half) Like all carbon gears, there is a little more flex than the aluminum one. This seems to work out better since it absorbs some stress rather than transmit all of the forces directly to the gear mount and fuselage. |
