Engine mount question

I have a Gator soft and safe mount in my 2m Majestic. Motor is a YS140dz. My question is do I need a nose ring. Now I personally would have thought a nose ring would be against the principle design of how this mount works but after around 7 flights its floppy all over the place!. I have checked that all screws/ mountings are tight and secure etc. The four mount grommets are compressed as tight as possible (limited by the spacers in them). Anybody had any experience with this mount/motor combination? Is the grommet rubber prone to nitro degradation??

RE: Engine mount question

It is my opinion, that you should use a nose ring whenever you can. I use to use the hyde mount with the nose ring attahced, and I noticed that whenever the tempreture got really hot or really cold I had to adjust the elevator trim. With you Gator mount, I know that you have to replace the grommets every so often to maintain the effectiveness of your mount. A good way to tell, is to watch your current drain. If your battery is nto holiding it's charge a longs as long as it normally would, chances are you need you need to change your grommets. Hope that this helps.

RE: Engine mount question

I agree with brother green that you should use a nose ring whenever you can. I would qualify that slightly and say they are a virtual necessity for four-stroke 1.20 and larger. Below that they're nice to have, and do extend useful life of servos and other vibration sensitive components.
