Need replacement for Spectrum.

Well my YS 63 powered Spectrum went in yesterday. It was a just a crash, nothing special about it. It just went in at a low angle and turned in to balsa sliver's and shelf paper ribbons. It was not even a good crash.

The YS 63 looks like it made it so I am now looking for something to replace the Spectrum. I know it had some issues but it did fly pretty well. I had retracts in it too. How is the Venus? The excelleron 50, Paramount 50/70, any of the Phoenix models???? Any of the giant scale planes????

I am looking for more of a pattern type of plane and not a 3D type. I am not dicounting a nice Cap, Edge, Sukhoi, Lazer type either. Just looking for a good all around plane to put the YS .63.

Thanks.

Consider the Kyosho Majestic, it's a very nice flying plane. I had a lot of fun with mine.

I too had a Spectrum and had a friend fly a Venus. I also still have a H-9 Aresti.
I would choose the Excelleron 50 over anything mentioned so far. Now the paramount 50/70 is the 3-D plane made by the same people as the Excelleron. If you wish a more pattern type choose the Excelleron.
I just saw the Excelleron 50 fly yesterday with a Saito 72. It is as well made as the 90 size and looks perfect fot a YS63.

I have an Excelleron 50 with an OS 60 FP up front. Only have one flight on it, but it seems pretty good. Just a touch nose heavy with the 60FP but it gives the plane adequate power for upline manuveurs. It has very little coupling in knife edge and rolls are fairly axial - thinking of adding just a touch of differential. Snaps like a demon with that big rudder, will have to tame that down some to avoid overrotation.

Your YS63 would be a good choice for this airplane. See if Hobby People have them on sale, their a little pricy if not.

The Excelleron IS on sale at hobby people... I have flown the 90 size not the 50 but the bigger bird was awesome! I had a Zen-50 with a YS-63FZ and it was a perfect combo, turnign a 12x7 APC 11K+ :D

I like the looks of the Majestic and have heard good things about both the Tai-Ji and the Javelin-II

Keep us posted,
James

The Venus is a nice flying plane but a bit close coupled. I personally have a Javelin and can't say enough good things about it now, but it needed some tweake to get it where it is, i.e. new landing gear struts and the CG needed moved back. I have 63FZ on mine and LOVE it.

The Zen 50 is pretty good and so was the Great Planes Tracer if you can find one.

Take a look at this plane:

It's an all moulded in-mold painted plane sold by [link=http://www.milehighwings.com]MileHighWings.com[/link].
I'm flying a blue version of it with Webra 50. Unbelievable light plane, which can withstand an occasional dirt nap. I especially like that the assembled plane fits in the tunk of my Volvo 850.

Thanks for the replies. I will look at the Tai Ji and a Javelin. I looked at the plaane from Mile High. That is a little steep for me right now.

It looks like I lost about 1/3 of the threads inside of the exhaust port on my YS. If I screw the pipe all the way in, it holds pretty good.

i reccomend the Beat On 50 by EZ not the fakeys! if u have the money because its flies VERY VERY well...... its has almost the performance of a 2meter pattern ship if setup right.....i belive its no more in production ,so u might wanna import that plane from singapore (www.singahobby.com)......

good luck in choosing a good 40size pattern ship
