Hi all, I've just started putting together a Venus and need help. It looks like I'll be ironing out wrinkles for a few hours, looks good other than that.

I've got a YS45re, it needs new bearings. The tank is 270cc (9.3oz), that will be too small I'm guessing. I'm thinking of the Tetra 400cc(13.8 oz). I want it mounted near the CG. What is a good prop for this combo? Will the Tetra check valve work with this engine? I've got two fuel fittings on the pump, how do I plumb this setup? any suggestions for a fuel dot? I've never run this engine and don't have any info on it. The kit comes with a 2" plastic spinner, does anyone make an aluminum spinner that would work with the appropriate size APC prop?

I've got a 7C radio with the digital servos. Plan on using an HS81 for the throttle. The reciever came with a 600 mah battery, is this enough for the servos? I rarely fly more than 4 flights in an outing.

I bought this because of all the good flight reports on it, it's my first arf. Now I've got to get another kit for the build pile. I will most likely be getting the GP Extra 300 .60 size or HOB P51 .20 size.

No one else is responding so I'll try to help you out. I often get little to no response to my posts too. These guys are more interested in the bigger birds. I have a freind that flies a Venus with a TT .46 pro. Your engine should do well but I don't know much about it. The fuel tank that came with it will be plenty. It will fly a 2 stroke for at least 15 minuts, 4 stroke longer still. The battery will also be fine for four flights, there are a lot of inexpensive high capacity packs available now..just depends on weight and how often you want to charge. Any hobby shop will have fuel dots, or check on Tower Hobbies. Good luck!

Thanks Xrod, I had read this engine running on the pipe uses a lot of fuel. I thought it might need a bigger tank. Mike

Hi Mike, You will love your new Venus. The kits spinners are cheap junk (I have broken two) so replacement is in order. Don't know about Tetra check values, but if it is the bladder tank my experience is that in an enclosed cowl situation it would be hard to full as you are blind to what is going on. I have read that pylon racers use an exact measurement of fuel to ensure a full tank without being able to see it fill or overflow. I had one on a profile and could see everything.

I recommend Central Hobbies Fuel Dots......hey they are right there in Billings, Montana! Here is a pict. of my Venus with the fuel dot mounted on the right side of the cowl. I have an Irvine.53 with a 11x6 prop, stock fuel tank.

Hi Mike,
The battery pack would be fine. I have gone to 1000 mah packs with the digital servos that (S3151) I'm using right now just for the peace of mind. I load check the battery pack between flight just to feed my Paranoia. [8D] I have had good luck in this engine range with the Great Planes "Nylon Spinner with Aluminum Backplate" spinners. I carve out the spinner to fit the prop and then balance the spinner and backplate together using a Du-Bro balancer. You can get Tru-Turn aluminum spinners cut to fit the prop you use and with a lightened backplate if you want. They a a lot more expense but they are nice.

I turned my venus into electric, awesome power, no mess, and 18min runtimes. Best arf to convert!!!

First off congratulations on getting one of these, you're now "in the fold" hehee.

Personally I have no complaints about using the supplied 300cc tank, even with my OS 61SF in mine. The flight time is reduced but the thing is I only use full power on uplines, and the rest of the time she's pretty much on 1/3 thottle. I still get 8 minute flights. Which when you think about it is time enough to do 2 pattern sequences for practice.

Now secondly, I totally agree with using decent servos on rudder elevator and ailerons and a micro HS 81 on the throttle. Every ounce of wieght you can save is more vertical!

I'm currently flying mine on a 650mAH NiMH pack placed behind the servos to get the balance right. Four flights a day is fine for this pack. If you use a fast charger that you take to the field you'll have extra insurance.

Now as for the Spinner, use it as a building aid on your next model but don't use it on your aircraft.

I bought a 2" Magnum spinner, it's a cheap copy of a Dave brown one, and all you need to do is purchase the corresponding tube nut to fit your engine. You can grind the prop cutouts to suit your choice of prop.

Rendegade, I have a Webra .61 I am thinking of using now. do you have any pics of your 61/Venus? Did you mount it inverted? I'm thinking of putting a pipe and header on it. If I mount it inverted, I think the exhaust outlet will point right at the wing.
