COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
To you guys that are planning on running a glow engine with the C-ARF spinners forget about it. When I bought it from the site I thought that it was aluminum. It turns out that the spinner is a hard plastic cone with crabon fiber on the inside. The back plate however is really nice aluminum. I just wish the Cone was aluminum. Anybody else have any other suggestions for spinners for the IMPACT?
I talked with TRU-TURN today and it would cost them between 1000-1500 dollars to make one special made. Since I am not made of money that is not going to be an option. I bougth the 3 3/8 from Central and it turns out to be 3 or 4MM too small. In the words of DAffy Duck "back to the drawing board".[:o] |
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
C-ARF released a plane that comes with an odd sized spinner, and the spinner doesn't work with glow engines? I would find that shocking if it wasn't so hard to believe.

RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
The C-ARF one works if you are careful . . .
I ended up using the 3.5" Dave Brown (bought form Tower). Well under $40 from memory at fits fine. It is just a bit longer than ideal. There is another thread in here somewhere where I think someone mentions one available for Europe that also workd well. David |
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
The spinner comp-arf provides is Carbon Fiber. The problem I had w/ it is the back plate isnt stiff enough. It will tolerate a starter without scuffing but the backplate flex's easily and the hole for the spinner screw is also smaller than Tru-turn. You have to be very cautious tightening the spinner retaining screw.
I used one on the Rev Pro for awhile with a CB associates nut and 8-32 screw to retain the cone. Eventually the screw failed and through the spinner in flight. This was on a 2-stroke. The spinner hit both prop tips but other than that missed the plane. I have a 92mm ES Composites spinner coming, hoping that it is better. |
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
Hey Brian when you get your spinner from ES composite, would love to hear some feedback:eek:
|
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
Brian,
That is the exact same thing that happened to me. I was using the webra 160. The 8-32 screw snapped and the spinner cone is in the desert. If I tightened the screw to much it would rub on the fuse. the back plate was very weak. |
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
I got the ES Composite spinner today. It looks good and fits the plane right. The backplate is thicker than the CArf one but not as thick as TruTurn, the cone is actually fiberglass, need to slot for the prop yourself ( I knew this when I bought it). So I hope it survives I have it and will give it a try. I can use the TruTurn nut on this one.

RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
Has anyone written to Tru-Turn and explained the need for this size of spinner?
|
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
I have talked with them a length, but they would need to re-tool their machines to run a 3 1/2 inch spinner, which would e somewhere in the neighbrohood of 1500.00. And since I don't have 1500 dollars laying around for a spinner, I am going to haev to pass. Unless we all get together and and make our voices heard then they may have to do one. They seem like really good people ar TRU-TURN, I am sure if they get enough calls from us, they may do something.[sm=sunsmiley.gif]

RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
By my reckoning we have several hundred new kits that will need the 90-mm (3-1/2) spinner. So far, I know that the BRIO and the IMPACT need that size. I wrote already.
The more of us that write to them the better. Are there any more kits now using this size and FAI shape (Length) ? I suggested writing to him because the requests will pile up, whereas a phone call or two might not have the same lasting or accumulative effect. (Just my guess). Regards, Eric. |
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
I have contaced Tru Turn also.
ONE THING...the size is 92mm (3.62inches) diameter. The ES Composites spinner is a perfect fit at 92mm diameter. I have now checked the Length of the Impact w/ the ES spinner on it, its about 78.5. The ES Spinner is 82mm(3.25) in length http://www.krumscheid-metallwaren.de/html/fittings.html 3rd time im editing this...so... Robert if you know a local machinist and have the CArf Spinner already you could have a thicker backplate made pretty easily. Later Brian |
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
Hey Brian, I have also found that using a 3.5" back plate from from a P 51 type spinner works also. Seems like a good fit now I have to test it and see.

RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
Hey Guys,
If you will remember back a few months ago I started a thread in regards to the need of an appropriate size spinner for these new models, I have already spoken with Tru Turn and he told me that if I would get a sizeable order together he would make us the spinners that we are needing. I had 5 or 6 people respond to this so I dropped it. If any of you interested let me know and I will make them available to you. Cost of the spinner will be posted once I have an idea of how many guys would be interested in purchasing one. Russell Honea www.patternproz.com |

RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
Hey Fellas,
Just an update, to this point there are 4 of us who are wanting this size spinner. I will talk to Tru Turn again and see if he will give me a better idea of what he considers a sizeable order. Russell Honea www.patternproz.com |
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
I am in for one.
|
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
I will take a couple and I think there will be at least 5 others around here who would like one.

RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
I replied by e-mail but to add to the pressure cooker. I would take 4.
How many is that so far? |
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
I would liketo get in on this also -- put me down for one.

RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
Hey fellas - Just starting to build my Impact and realized the spinner was going to be a problem. So count me in for one too! Thanks.

RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
I'm late on the reply here, but I'll take one too!

RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
The big question is, "Are we all watching this thread or is someone counting?"
If someone has it tabulated I would be more than happy to give uncle Tru-turn a call. :-) unless someone else already is doing it! Eric. |
RE: COMPOSITE ARF Spinnner for Impact
Hey Guys, I wanted to let you know that I spoke to Bob at Tru-Turn a few days ago, and because of our thread, he has decided to make the 92 mm spinner. He said that it may take a few weeks to get them up and going, because he puts a lot of research into it. I hope to hvae one by the end of February, and I will let you know how it looks and fits.
