Exelleron or Quest or?
 

Im looking for a Pattern ARF that would be somewhat overpowered with a Saito 120. Im not looking for a "3D/pattern" unless it performs very well for pattern.
Would the Exelleron or the Quest be good choices?

Would they be too nose heavy with a Saito 120?
Are they more of a 3D plane than a Pattern?
Im inquiring about these planes because of the price, are there any other good choices to see if Im gonna like pattern flying?

I have both. The Quest with a YS140 and the Excelleron with a Saito 100.

You can't go wrong with either, both fly really nice and smooth. The Excelleron is a lot lighter (obviously with the Saito) and flies really slow with unlimited vertical (but it is not a rocket going up); I had some difficulty balancing because the Saito is really light, with the 120 you will be right on the spot with more vertical and speed.
The Quest is a monster with the YS and I have to fly it a less than half throttle most of the time and maybe at half throttle going up. I had to install the tail servos in the tail and add an ounce of lead to get it to balance right, but it is a great flying machine.
Both fly different but very good, maybe the Excelleron will have a slight advantage because of the extremely light wing loading, but then I have the 'old' Quest, maybe the new one with the modifications they made to it flies even better and lighter.

I don't fly 3D, but I believe these are also capable of that.

I have two Excelleron 90's with ys 110's on them for the money these planes fly straight with no coupling at all. The quests I have seen all have coupling issues. So for pattern use the excelleron is the clear choice. As far as 3D goes the quest is shorter so it might have quicker response , I acually think the quest is a nicer looking plane but for flying, the excelleron will beat it hands down in pattern. As far as nose heavy with the saito 120 my 110s requre that i put the battery pack as far forward as possible to keep it from being tail heavy. I don't think that you would be really over powered with the 120 on the excelleron 90.

Same here. On my Excelleron with YS 1.10 I had to put the 2000 mah battery forward
over the fuel tank to balance it. The Saito 1.20 should be fine.

I agree that the Quest's trim scheme looks better but pattern flying is the main issue here. Sounds like the Excelleron could be the better plane unless this newer version of the Quest is "that" much better.

How much less does the Excelleron weigh than the Quest?

I saw that Oracover is used on the Quest, what covering is used on the Excelleron?

My Excelleron weights 7.9 pounds (with the Saito 100) and the Quest is 9.8 pounds (old version with the YS140).

I've heard the covering on the new Quest is Ultrakote same as the Excelleron, not the crap they put on the first version.
